GDT: WHC - Norway vs Austria

Norway has the advantage of resting one day but Austria seems to be on a roll and took early lead.

Honestly less interested in watching today. Raffl draws in for Huber who goes to the 4th line. And I was already upset yesterday when Unterweger drew in for the first powerplay in front of Maier.

That SHG just reminded me of everything wrong with Austrian hockey. The lazy cutesy pass from Raffl. Heinrich at the point having short arms and being unable to corral the puck, Heinrich getting beaten easily in general.

I want to see the youngsters play. I think there's a lot of seniority privilege in the Austrian club system. If we're going by who is the best on paper, Austria shouldn't be competitive anyways. But it's more fun to watch the youth play, and I'm quite confident that they're not less competent than these veterans. I've seen these veterans fail over and over and over again, I know how that script goes.

Depends how the rest of the games to
Well yeah, GB needs a win now to overtake Norway even if Norway loses every single game going forward. So which team do you see losing to GB? There is like 10% chance Austria does and maybe 5% Latvia.

If Norway doesn't get any points here, there's a 65% chance they don't get any points at all during the remainder of the tournament.

And then GB only has to collect 2 points, the likelihood of which is in the double digits. So losing here would definitely put some pressure on the Norwegians.

Some - sure. Does relegation become the likeliest of outcomes? Still not really, not even close to it.

Its way more likely than Norway beating one of USA, Czechs and Sweden
Dude, they don't have to win against anyone anymore unless GB wins against someone. That's the whole point.

Of course pretty redundant discussion as long as Norway doesn't seem that likely to lose today anyway.

Norway has as of today 2 points while GBR has 1. Norway has yet to play the US, the Czech Republic and Sweden - and a win here is quite unlikely. GBR has Finland, Latvia, the US and Austria. If Norway loses today in regulation, it will de facto all come down to Austria vs. GBR.

If the Brits wins in OT or better, they will pass Norway. Norway would have to win today or, at least, get a point in OT/SO to be (relatively) safe.

Stupid coach challenge by Austria imo. Was so clear that the Austrian pushed Johannessen into the goalie.

Exactly, that was my point. GB getting 2 points is more lkely.

Norway leading anyway now though.

Wimmer got beat clean. I think that was a really gratuitous penalty by Raffl. Zundel got beat but there was no space left on the left, the slash did not save anything but it led to a goal.

Hey my first language isn't English and if I used a wrong word idc. The game is important anyway.

Edited the first post..
That's alright, I just find the notion that GB is capable of winning against anyone in this tournament offensive :sarcasm:

Norway has been better in the 2nd especially, kinda deserved lead.

Also, can't really blame the Austrian coach, giving Starkbaum rest makes sense but you can't help but think Kickert isn't exactly doing great in goal today.

This game has been intensely annoying to watch. Kasper an Haudum are trying to make plays but Lebler is too slow. But at least with Lebler, he gives 100 percent effort. Nissner and Schneider are also trying to make plays but Thomas Raffl is both slow and doesn't give any effort. Both of our "top lines" are nonfunctional because there are skaters on them that can't keep up with the play. I'm not sure why we're ditching playing the youngsters. I don't mind watching us lose if we play the youngsters but since we're playing the veterans I don't even really care if we win. I've seen this movie too many times.
