What's Your Most Controversial Hockey Opinion?

There's a glut of teams in the Northeast and that needs to change.

And 32 teams is ridiculous, let alone more
Owners put their teams where the population is, the northeast is heavily populated with many cities. How are we going to change that, force half of the people to move to Wyoming and Arkansas? I wholeheartedly agree that 32 teams is too many

I think goalies should play all second periods of every game blindfolded.

Only players named Stanley should get to wear a Cup.

European hockey is better and hitting (not fighting) shouldn't be allowed.

Let the skilled thrive without risking their life in the name of finishing a check or sending a message.
I see your European hockey without hitting and raise you the best hockey league in history, PBH.

Covering the puck and getting a whistle should trigger the other team to exit the zone as if they were offsides and can immediately reenter. Look at it like once you enter the zone, keep the goalie from covering the puck or they get the puck back. It’s like the goalie had the ability to regain possession- and a “penalty” for entering the zone and not scoring- now the other team gets a go at it. If the goalie is forced to cover again upon reentry before the other team can touch the puck due to a tenacious forecheck, whatever- delay of game.

The pace of the game would be insane- a lot of catching teams flat footed on bad changes, odd-man-rushes, too many men penalties- scoring goes up.

Could be a fun OT format, anyway.

Mine is that the NHL or scheduler is cheating to get the Canadians back into the playoffs by giving them the second game of a back to back playing the tired team 19 times. That is 1/4 of their season playing tired teams. And that is 12 more than the next which is Tampa Bay. Thats not a coincidence, its flat out cheating.
How many of those were the habs also on a back to back.
That is the accurate way of determining who had the advantage.

Increase the age of draft eligible players to 24. 22 if you played in the AHL for at least 2 years.

Reason: If you want the draft system to work, so bad teams can build a competitive team; then allow the kids to fully develop before the draft and take out a lot of the guessing.

Wouldn’t get through the court system.

The introduction of the wild card playoff format may be responsible for one of the most boring eras of post-season hockey in league history.
It actually fixed the 4 getting in from one division. Now if another division is better, 5 teams can get in.

True but the combination of matchups is severely limited and a lot of interesting teams never get a chance to face each other unless they make the Conference finals. Matchups like the Avs vs Stars this year should be an anticipated Conference Finals. Not to mention how bored people are with EDM vs LA in round 1. It's drained a lot of excitement for me.

Partially true. I think Houston and other cities have more of a population than Long Island or Buffalo...

The NHL should just go straight wins and losses, no loser points/point system.

And if you think that the overtime format and/or shootout is too much of a gimmick to entirely decide between a win and a loss, then you're actually making an argument to revamp the OT format into something else. The point system is a holdover from when ties were frequent and possible. Without ties, they just serve as point inflation, especially after the rule change that awarded them earlier.
