Equipment: What's Your Current Gear?

9400 or 9500?

9400, can't afford the 9500's  I would have gone for the more expensive Reebok 18k's but I'm not a fan of the P4 graphics, especially in my team colours.

Being in the UK total cost for the full set came to 1k+ (dollars) including shipping, and I don't even know if I'll get caught for import duty yet, I had to pay something like 25% on a 250 dollar helmet earlier in the year :shakehead plus the exchange rate is crappy, it's around 1.65 dollars for a pound right now, I remember when it used to be almost 2 for 1. But it's still cheaper than getting it from anywhere outside North America unless I go for second hand stuff, equipment is Pejorative Sluredly expensive here. I used to get a lot of stuff from a German website but then the Euro and Pound became almost 1 for 1.

Out of curiosity how do you use such a wide variety of flexes. Ive heard of using 82 flex and 90 flex but to go from 87 to 112 :amazed:

Sorry, I havn't checked this thread in awile . But if you're reading this, to make things simple: I don't.

I don't use the 112 flex at all. It's my 3rd string stick. I use the 87 and 90 all the time. When I break out the 112 at practice or stick time or somthing I just take wristers. It's hard to get a solid slapper or snap shot out of it. Catching passes is also harder with it, because I'm use to the "give" my 90 or 87 will have when recieving a pass. With the 112, it's like the puck is bouncing off a wall.

Wow, fingers crossed for you!

Real curious to seeing how the stiff Vaughn pads perform.

Yeah, I've always stayed away from Vaughn gear because I didn't like the shape of the pads and they seemed designed more for stand-up goalies while I'm a butterfly. I've always preferred a flat-faced pad so that's what attracts me to this model. Right now I'm using Reebok P2's with no break so they should be pretty similar.

I hope you got the full set, I have heard amazing things about the Vision gloves. Certainly better designed than the Velocity series

Yeah I did say I'm getting the full set. I hope what you've heard about the glove is true, I've had trouble with the last two gloves I've used. My Reebok P2 is the pro model glove and I still get stingers sometimes, it doesn't close very well either but I think that's because it was well used when I got it. The previous glove I had was a Bauer and I hated it, the pocket was tiny. Haven't had a glove I liked since my trusty old Itech Prodigy  (don't worry I didn't have the incredibly ugly Prodigy pads to match, I had X-wings )

By the way this is my current setup:

I switched out my cut-down Easton Synergy ST with the 120ish flex for a pro stock CCM U+ Crazy Light meant originally for Peoria's Phil McRae. Much lighter, has a little more flex than my Warrior Vandal, and has less curve on the blade than the Warrior. The Easton is my stickhandling practice stick now since it's the heaviest one of the three.

Amazing job keeping those P2's clean.... even my all black pads look dirtier than that!

I think it's just the photography making them look clean  I've never cleaned my pads ever. I've had them for a year and a half and the guy who had them before me used them for a season of semi-pro playing at least 40 games.

You can see a lot more puck marks in this picture:

looks like we should trade sticks!

For those of you who are using prostock gloves, did you buy them brand new or game-used?

How's the smell of the game-used ones? I have no problem wearing used gears except for maybe gloves and definitely base layers.

When you aren't playing, trying storing them upside down and even put some weight on the boot. That should help with making a good S-curve.

Thanks.

Would a hard Orange ball help easy the pads so they won't give up massive rebounds, or is it pucks, or bust ?

Those are Sonic x9's?

From my past experience with DR pads, they offer solid protection but the glove often leaves something to be desired... Depending on what level you play you will get a stinger here and there.

What kind of mask is that? can't tell by the half photo but cheater cages are awesome!

It's a vaughn, just pure red. I like it. It has a built in sweat band at the top. I noticed even when I was a player that I'd get a ton of sweat in my eyes, which was extremely annoying. That and I think I have an acute case of what Khabibulin has, or I've just been out of shape my entire life

At first, the competition won't be very high. Of the group of guys that play, I take the hardest shot both with orange ball, or puck. I'll probably be too slow to make a glove save anyways.

I attached the neck guard finally. Poorly, I might had, but I have the type of luck to get smoked in the throat.

I just recently got my habs (no logo) jersey, too.

Gloves- Easton EQ50 elite all black
Pants - Easton EQ50
Helmet - Bauer 4500
Skates - Graf G5
Sticks - Easton Grip S19's with custom curve ( pretty much a Zetterberg curve)

i'd wrap the middle string of the neck guard around the two vertical bars in the middle as opposed to wrapping it around the horizontal bar.

this way the throat guard covers more of your throat and the string never gets in your way visually.

Good point.

I'm such a goalie noob.

Got a couple new pieces of gear today:

-Reebok 4K goal stick (DiPietro curve)
-Reebok 3K goal skates

Still getting used to the concept of Reebok being a hockey brand. When I was last playing (5 years ago) it wasn't.

Got a pair of the CCM U12 pants last weekend and they are the lightest pants I have ever picked up. They even weigh less than the crazy light pants, though not by much. I've used them a couple times and have been very happy with them.

Ordered my self some new gear.

Graf G75 skates, finaly parted with my rbk 9k skates.
And a Easton E700 bucket.

Current Gear
Helmet: Bauer 5100
Shoulders: Easton ST6
Elbows: Easton ST6
Shins: Easton ST6
Gloves: Easton S9
Skates: Bauer Vapor X2.0
Pants: Bauer Vapor X20
Stick: None, Still deciding if I'm a lefty or righty

Picked up an intermediate Easton tapered shaft cut down from a OPS but it only fits junior blades. Oh well. Might see if Hockey Giant is still running their sale that's blowing out old junior blades. They had old Z-Carbons 2 for $15 or something like that.

Just picked up a new set of RBK 8K inlines. Going to skate on 'em tonight for the first time. Interested in seeing if the Hornet wheels are noticeably better than the Hot Shots.

Wow, fingers crossed for you!

Got slapped with import tax, £150. Not sure exactly what that is in dollars, I'd guess around 250 :shakehead

Border force can't stop all these immigrants getting in but as soon as there's an opportunity to take money from someone they decide to do their job properly. Also there's people who avoid paying millions in income tax but they will almost always get you for import duty, it's a joke.

Pads are being held right now, can't get them until I pay up.
