What's wrong with Malkin?

He’s on pace for 64 points over 82 games. That’s solid but not close to PPG, especially since he has 14 in his last 27 games.

Not sure why people are giving you grief. It’s a valid question. His nuclear start is propping up his overall numbers and it’s fair to wonder.

For 85% of this season, he’s been the equivalent of a 12 goal/42 point player.

If he plays at the same pace he has over the past 27 games for the remaining 50, we’re only looking at 14 goals and 50 points.

I agree and have always liked Malkin. I also honestly don't watch a lot of hockey these days so that's why I'm asking. He also started with 11 points in 5 ganes which I get is not sustainable. To start that hot and then go 14 in 27 is why I was asking what's going on.

Early on I remember reading where fans were saying he was skating very well in comparison to last season. I also remember him having a great one timer option on the PP for many years

He had back to back 27 goal seasons and is now on pace for 15.

Like everyone else has said...nothing is really wrong with him, other than being very old on a bad team that doesn't have enough decent linemates to go around, so he plays a lot with total scrubs. But on the season, he's still doing respectably well in terms of point production. At least, roughly on par with reasonable expectations at his age. Collecting minuses is really just a feature of playing on a bad team with defencemen who can't or don't want to bother actually defending.

People are way too sensitive. Dunk thread? Blah blah blah.

I don't watch Pens games and was wondering why he started so well and faded.

People don't have to post in every thread that they don't like.
Did you also wonder why Ovy was so faded all year last season?

He's old, pretty much all there is to it. The decline is harsh when you hit your late 30s. Only one player in history has hit 80 points in their age 38 season (Oates). Malkin is on pace for 65 or so, pretty much what you can expect.

Gordie Howe had 103 points when he was 40.

Unless you meant specifically age 38

Everyone did but not sure what Ovechkin has to do with this topic.

Ovechkin also had a strong finish in the second half with 43 points in 44 games and carried that over into this season with 25 points in his first 18 games before getting injured.

What are you theories on why Ovechkin faded in the first half and then improved drastically in the second half and into this season?

What are your theories on why Malkin has 14 points in his last 27 games and why he is on pace for only 15 goals this season?

No, because it was abundantly clear that he came into the season injured, then returned to his usual 50 goal pace after the all star break when he healed up and hasn't looked back.

Malkin started the season dominant and then disappeared, is he playing through an injury sustained a month in?

It’s a fair criticism of the topic and contribution to the thread. Thats how it comes across to me. 🤷🏽‍♂️ not exactly like this guys not producing in his prime on a top team.
