What's wrong with Connor McDavid this season? Lowest PPG and GPG output in ~7-8 years for him

Even though offense usually peaks in the early to mid 20’s, I’d venture most players are more complete and better when they are in their late 20’s. Unless McDavid is getting like less than 70 points in 82 games, I don’t think there is anything to worry about

Forcing it to Leon. We saw when he took the game over a few years ago what he can do on his own. He needs to shoot more.
He will be fine. Kucherov is 4 years older and hasn't skipped a beat, people really hoping for that are going to be waiting a long ass time. Mark Messier could still fly and skate like the wind at age 35 and the nutrition/training players have nowadays is light years better than back then. Ovechkin is freaking 39 and scoring at a 55+ goal rate.
McDavid has won everything in the regular season he can, I think the regular season just doesn't hold as much appeal for McDavid as it once did. There's nothing for him to prove in that regard and this year he even got his golden goal moment in the 4 Nations (check that off the list). It's Leon's "turn" to go for the Hart/scoring race anyway, Leon wants to show he's worth his new contract, Connor knows that.

Oilers fans were so thrilled with the offseason moves by McDavid's appointed buddy Jackson...now a 180 degree turn.
Also, hiring Stan Bowman...no one is shedding any tears for him.

The org caters to friends, they're more worried about McDavid leaving than winning hockey games. That's how you know it's over.

There is NOTHING wrong with Connor McDavid.
He isn't putting up the crazy video game numbers because the rest of the league has been slowly coming to terms with how he plays, they game plan better for him, and know his tendencies a bit more.
And even with all that, he STILL is putting up elite numbers, including ridiculous (60-65%) possession Corsi and Fenwick numbers!
And 'off year' by HIS standards? Maybe. But like many have said....being a hockey elite night in, night out for years is not easy....and even an off year from him is better than a full on career year for many GOOD players in the league.
He'll be fine.

People betting against top level athletes in today's day and age are gonna have a rough time. The top players play at a higher level for longer than ever before because diet and training is so much more advanced than in the past.
Look at LeBron James at 40+ years old in the NBA, Steph Curry just 56 points last night and he's 36? Ovechkin is 39 and still scores at a 50 goal rate. Tom Brady played at a high level until age 41. Tennis players used to be toast by their late 20s, now you see top players playing well into their mid/late 30s like Djokovic.
Draisaitl is 2 years older than McDavid and having a career best year. Kucherov is 4 years old. Etc. etc. etc.

You have to bring you A-game vs the best teams to get in to the playoffs.
Instead he could be less "stat padding" versus lower opposition, when the score doesn't require it, other guys instead can play more, reduces his injury risk.

Just because he doesn't have the high point total doesn't mean he's not the overall best player in the league. During Sid's prime I think both Henrik and Daniel Sedin won an Art Ross but no one in their right minds would have taken either of them over Sid. Look at Mario and Wayne's point totals from year to year, they vary wildly.

A combination of injuries and illness, most likely. He had what appeared to be a relatively healthy stretch there where he was putting up 2 points per game for a month or so.
