Who knows how many of them would have made it.Some of their best players play in the NHL. Another reason I am against more teams than 32.

Lmao exactly why I wanted a handful of better players that could adapt.
It's like you're making my point for me.
The team wasn't good and better players were available. The players we did pick weren't good. We agree there.
Lol, listing players that weren’t eligible to play in the Olympics.Further, the 1980 US Olympic Team was a group that managed to
overcome missing players from their peer pool (Langway, Mullen, Roberts, Dunn, Gorence, Nilan and Baker) and beat Czechoslovakia and the Soviets and won Gold.
Quit whining about missing players. This isn't the 1960s Internationally anymore, deal with reality.
I'm a US fan, but can easily see a Euro Final. These teams are within reason capable of beating each other.
Yeah the rise of the Czechs has almost exactly lined up with the exit of the Russians. It is great for the tournament because if we were still getting the Czechs from 10-15 years ago this tournament would be getting boring. If the Czechs can carry this on makes you wonder what the landscape of the tournament would be in a world Russia ever gets added back. The quarters would be even more of a blood bath.Missing the Semifinals in back to back years is particularly bad given Russia's absence, as that is a team that made the Semifinals 22/26 years (85 %) since the knockout stage was added... so you're missing one of the teams you'd typically expect to be there, making it theoretically easier to reach the Semis.
Yeah basically you’ll get two very competitive QF instead of one and a Latvia/Switzerland gets pushed down out of it, meaning a team like Slovakia is often a fourth place finisher making for a more tricky matchup for a first place finisher.Yeah the rise of the Czechs has almost exactly lined up with the exit of the Russians. Added a couple for you. But agreed. These are the guiding principles of HC. A disgusting and pathetic organization.Politics, favoritism, cronyism, fraud, arrogance
Feels like there is a little bit of difference between "If these two NHL players were in we won!!!!!" and criticizing a selection on some empirical grounds, no?I'm so tired of Canadian fans whining that we didn't have our best players. It's literally the excuse we are known for and it's so annoying.
We've gone from "We can win gold with our C team LOL!" (And actually having the stats to back it up!) to THIS.
Sure every country has its share of lame excuses. Euros (especially Swedes) like to blame pro-Canadian officiating conspiracies, and Americans like to set the bar lower for themselves as to what makes them a superior hockey nation. But we should not sink to this level.
Ya I would never complain about players in the NHL not being released.I'm so tired of Canadian fans whining that we didn't have our best players. It's literally the excuse we are known for and it's so annoying.

Ya not even giving those star players invites to camp, just to try and make the team, is embarrassing for the management group.People are going on and on about not bringing their best players, but look at who they did bring. Ritchie, Catton, McKenna, etc... they brought many of the most electric offensive prospects in the world. And they just didn't score. I think if you put Andrew Cristall on this team it might be the same result for him, 5 GP and maybe 1 pt. We don't know, but this feels more systemic when you look at the results for the top guys they brought.
I personally would have brought all of Yakemchuk, Parekh, MIsa, Sennecke, etc... to camp and looked really hard at bringing more of them. And there's no way I leave Yakemchuk off the team.
That’s a terrible argument. You pick the best players and win or lose with them. What you’re saying is just a fact of life, you never know what will happen. But that doesn’t mean you take worse players lolYou have no idea what those players would have done. May have delivered nothing more than anyone else.

Off the top of my head (might have some wings/ handedness wrong), not including injured guys like iginla and lidstrom

Canada had there C team this tourney and proved we can't compete. Cowan was our leading scorer with 3 points and played 80 % of the time. Bedard in comparison had 23 points.I'm so tired of Canadian fans whining that we didn't have our best players. It's literally the excuse we are known for and it's so annoying.
