What's with Don Cherry hate with our swedes?

I'm usually the one who doesn't take Cherry seriously at all. But, I have to say he does seem racist to me with his comments again non-canadian hockey players.

The other night he was taking free unnecessary shots at Karlsson(thought we know he's not playing good), then at Zibanejab and Silfverberg sitting on the bench, mocking them, so uncalled for. How ever, he took it to a whole another level when he mocked Alfredsson for wearing a head band in the warm up, saying this is the playoffs and Alfredsson is not serious about it at all? Are you ****ing kidding me? Was that necessary? Alfreddson knows all about the playoffs and what it takes to win. Don Cherry should really keep his mouth shut, when he has no clue what he's talking about.
 
Don Cherry can be a total ******** when he wants to be! We are all used to his utterly stupid antics and tirade on how great everything T O R O N T O is.

News Flash Don, 1955 called, they all their fabric back from Bouclairs!

Last year when he bashed Ottawa for putting in silf, saying you don't put a guy in playoffs who didn't get you in there, then went on to praise about Mark stones play the night before sums him up.

Xenophobic, not racist. I didn't think he was that bad. Ripped Cowen, praised Methot. Who cares about the headband? So what, an old man yelled about clouds... Move on.

Cherry is a Leafs fan, and sees Ottawa as a rival.Any time he tries to praise the Sens it sounds forced. The smooch- a-thon with Kadri and the boys was disrespectful to the Sens in their own arena but I doubt that even crossed his mind.

It is funny to hear him ragging on Alfie for wearing a head band when his own style of dressing seems be inspired by the days of Liberace only more flamboyant.

But I thought Ron Maclean was egging him on this time and smirking when he ripped into the Ottawa Swedes, and I really disliked how they went for Karlsson without acknowledging that he is not the same player since his injury.

Maclean, Cherry and Healy just seemed to want to get the message out that Karlsson sucks and is not half the player as first Subban and now Letang.

I watch Don Cherry not for hockey insight, but for old man dementia hilarity. I love watching Ron Wilson's face as Don makes his crazy outrageous statement. It's worth the price of admission just to watch Ron's reaction.
 
Cherry commenting on clothes is funny. Just change channels between periods, it isn't like HNIC discusses the game they are broadcasting.
 
He's old, stupid and suffers from memory loss.

I'm sure he's upset his good ole Canadian Leafs (wait what? Weren't they American and Cherry *****ed about it for YEARS?) are gone.

This is precisely what was going on. He's about as lucid as Abe Simpson. I laughed about that rant the same way a laugh at Leafs fans I know that derisively call Alfie "Crusty." They hate so much, :laugh:!

I do like watching me some Coach's Corner, though.

Yes, this is an issue to discuss.

Don Cherry clearly illustrated that the 4 swedes on our team aren't serious about winning and playoff hockey.

Zbad and Silf - sitting on the bench having a joke, care free of the result.

Karlsson - Playing lazy, fooling around.

Alfredsson - Clowning around with a headband. Doesn't realize it's playoff hockey and its time to get serious

I mean, thats what he literally meant and I don't understand who allows him to talk to like that mock ceetain players? Has he even watched Alfredsson, silfverberg and Zbad play?

I wonder how he will feel if someone on air comes up and mocks Bobby Orr for a loss?
 
The Karlsson criticisms are fair, even if he is injured. He was lazy and a bit irresponsible defensively, despite showing some of his old offensive flash. Karlsson's admitted to this.

The Silfv and Zbad stuff needs to be taken with a grain of salt, it's just a personal preference and an old school mentality, rather than an anti-Swede thing. He's called other players out on similar stuff before (Subban comes to mind). I imagine if we had Tortorella or Therrien as coach, the kids might not have been allowed to do that kind of thing.

The Alfie stuff is ridiculous, though, I'll agree with you. It's a headband. Has no relevance to commitment to winning.
 
Don Cherry ridiculing Alfie's headband is ironic considering the monstrous suits he wears. Maybe he has to channel that inner frustration somewhere...
 
I wonder if there are other hockeyshows in Canada? If the general hockeyfan is getting analyzis somewhere else, if viewers gets insight from other persons than Cherry? If not, I am confused how people can stand having a hockeyshow where only nonsens are spit out.

For 20 years I have heard people in Canada think he is a lutanic but fun and I don't understand how hockey can be treated like that and I don't understand why fans accept such a tool like Cherry. Icehockey deserves better than being fronted by a clown.
 
It's ok, Don Cherry have had some valid points. From time to time we have had played to soft hockey, not enough physical hockey and too much passing, I for sure understand why he called us chicken Swedes.

Sweden has started playing much more physical hockey the last 10-15 years or so.

We even have a player who often plays tougher and harder than the Canadians themselves, Douglas Murray. ;-)

If you ask Don Cherry himself I'm pretty sure he is positive over the development Swedish hockey have had the last 10-20 years.

Last step for us (Sweden) to take is NHL sized rinks and we have some very fun and
good hockey.

I have always stated that a mix between North American style and Swedish style would be the ultimate hockey.

Also for some young Swedes Stanley Cup may not yet be more important than life, they are not prepared to die for a cup like every Canadian is.

Stanley Cup for a Canadian is like being sent to war.

Canadians do take hockey E X T R E M E L Y serious (which I like myself). ;-)
