What's up with Cole Caufield?

What's up with him is that he couldn't even win puck battles against players younger than him at the WJC and is now playing in a league he doesn't belong in.

Not only is he one dimensional, but his shooting prowess were exaggerated. This guy should be in the AHL right now. With luck and a lot of work, he will become a bubble NHL top 6 winger that can help on the power play.

One dimensional, diminutive prospect with concerns about compete levels and intensity.... What could go wrong at the NHL level...? His WJHC performances should have been warning flag enough.

That said, a longer adjustment period should be expected for this type of player, barn storming start or not.
Debrincat had a bad world juniors and was actually cut from the team the year after. Is a small, supposedly one dimensional guy. His compete level was questioned by Team USA it seemed or his practice level in camp wasn't liked. He faced the same thing with the Blackhawks when drafted, fans were down on him because he looked poor in camp.

I don't think the size of skillset is that off or unique he can't do it too. He probably needs help not on a bottom 3 team.

I was not high on Dabrincat coming into the NHL so I'm eating crow there but Dabrincat's motor in jr. didn't have the same question marks as CC. My memory could be foggy on that one but at Erie I don't recall noticing that and remember him as much more of a north / south player than Caufield ever was which is a better recipe for a small player heading to the NHL imo.

Also, I think the big ice in college helped Caufield a lot and stock needs to be put into the transition to smaller ice for a player like him.

This is what happens when you get a 5’6 one dimensional winger and try and make him play in the NHL before he’s ready

I don't understand how a player who was a key cog on a finalist right off the bat wasn't 'NHL ready'. The Habs have the worst defense possible to cater to his style of play on a team that self-imploded from the very start.

That may be true, but that didn't stop him from producing decently in the playoffs playing for an underdog team, and we all know the postseason is far more physical than the regular season.

He will be fine long term. Snipers will be most affected by being on a bottom team. Unfortunately this dumpster fire in Montreal might last a couple years.
