What's Preventing The Hurricanes From Taking That Next Step?

Paying almost 8 million dollars to Orlov? Paying almost 5 million to Kotkaniemi? Brent Burns slowing down because the ecosystem in his beard is undergoing climate change?

The Rangers money being allocated to guys who are consistently crushing it this year?

I doubt its coaching, the Rangers just seem to be clicking at the top end.

I tend to think that the MAIN reason is that the Canes have now made the playoffs 6 years in a row and only 1 team out of 16 playoff teams wins the Cup each year.

The Canes will always be the team that can’t get over the hump… until/unless they do. That’s how it works. Tampa was that team in 2018. The Rangers that everyone is psyched about right now have done a lot less in the playoffs than the Canes the last 6 years. Etc.

For now, sure, blame the system and say it doesn’t win playoff hockey. Maybe you end up being right. Or maybe they’ve had more consistent success than almost anyone over the last 6 years and it’s not a bad strategy to keep on knocking on that door. None of us like to talk about how much luck has to do with a playoff run - Canes haven’t had it so far. Thems the breaks.

They are few diverse players away. Some teams that haven't won yet like Dallas didn't need different looks in the lineup, just a bit of luck and better play from their roster. Carolina does need a few new players. They are all very samey. Rangers tried that in the early 2010s and didn't win.

Jeff Daniels.

Rod desperately needs to find an assistant coach that will help him make better adjustments to the power play, and frankly the offense as a whole. Daniels isn't the answer. He was a lousy coach in Charlotte with the Checkers and he isn't any better now.

There's other factors, but finally cutting ties with this dude would be a start.

lack the kind of dman that can run the PP. They lose the special teams battle EVERY. SINGLE. f***ING. YEAR. And the one thing they've lacked there has been a PPQB

Tony's not that guy, though he's the closest on the roster

Burns is a trigger man, not a QB

They had him and let him walk in 2021

You're 100% right but remember the convo about the Rangers guys just merely a year ago? The Canes have pieces, they just need that game breaker offensively. Also Nishikin can't come over soon enough to run their PP1.
