What's going on with Logan Stankoven?

Stankoven started the season with 14 points in 15 games and has 10 points in the next 39...
He’s a little guy. Often the little guys start fast because the bigger guys take longer to get going. As the season progresses some little guys (Stankovrn this year) struggle to get to the middle of the ice against the heavier players.,

He's definitely been snake bit, he gets chances after chances, but can't seem to hit the back of the net. He's still a rookie, and i'm not to worried. He has the skill and motor to be productive.

He's been playing on the 4th line for awhile now, so that doesn't help. Dallas is pretty deep at forward

It's a shame he's fallen off so much, or been snakebit for much of the season, especially considering he was an early Calder frontrunner.

Well, not frontrunner I guess, but at least potential finalist.

Zero chance of that now but still no reason to sound the alarm just yet. He'll find his groove again eventually.

Oh boy another thread like this.

Let's bump up the Robertson hate thread to start the season and read all that excellent commentary. We don't need threads every time a player goes through a 20-30 game slump.

It's okay for people to ask questions about NHL players on the NHL forum, regardless of whether you personally feel that it's an appropriate question to be asking.

I’m not pretending to have a ton of insight on this guy, but just looking at the numbers from last year and this year:

2023-24
8 points in 6 games to start his season
After that, 6 points in 18 gams
Playoffs, 8 points in 19 games

2024-25
14 points in 15 games to start the season
After that, 11 points in 39 games

Obviously every player has hot and cold streaks so it’s easy for the numbers to lie. In this case, outside of a couple of brief hot runs he’s played at a 27-point place for the other 3/4ths of his career. Even if he’s very good during those brief hot streaks, the great majority of the time he hasn’t looked too great.

He turns 22 this week. Scoring for forwards peaks around age 24-26, so as a smaller guy he has a year or two left to mature and develop some consistency. If that happens, he could be a top-6 contributor. If not, as a small winger he might struggle to find quality opportunities in the NHL. “Small winger who scores 1/2 PPG” is basically just roster filler.

It really comes down to how he matures in the next 24 months or so.

Edit: looks like his ice time has been deeply cut, and he was a healthy scratch yesterday? If he’s losing the confidence of his coach then the road ahead could be tough for him.
