#3 overall pick in the 2012 draft by MTL. He had a lot of hype around him and many saw him as a highly skilled franchise centre for the Habs future. Now he is being tossed around from team to team like he's another Yakupov. Will he still live up to the hype and will it happen with Minny now? I was surprised to see both Arizona and Pittsburgh give up on him so soon.

So far he's been a .060PPG player throughout his career with a career high of just 56pts. But I'm sure I'm not the only one who thought he would be up closer to .90-1.00PPG throughout his career.

He had some substance abuse issues which may have factored in him not panning out. Also any time you draft someone that only played a couple games that season there’s gonna be a ton of risk. He was a high risk, high reward pick that didn’t work out.

I'll go with Alcohol or substance abuse for 400, Alex.

Bryan Fogerty was immensely talented, only alcohol derailed his career.

Hopefully Alex has his demons behind him, but quick, before it's too late....

He's on Ottawa now.

I must be out of the loop because I don't think I ever saw anything about substance abuse? I've seen lack of work ethic and family issues but never this one.

It’s his skating. He can’t skate with the puck and dangle, it’s one or the other for him. Huge flaw. Makes him inept 5 on 5. And his defensive awareness leaves a lot to desire.

Under MB the Habs have had some of the worst development I have ever seen, just bad decisions after bad decisions. There's been talk that Galchenyuk's dad hasn't helped matters and rumors that Alex was enjoying the nightlife too much while with the Habs.
Pretty much this.

-Habs and the insanely terrible farm system
-Habs never doing a full rebuild despite being horrible. Habs love to bring prospects (the "fewture") and not give them ice time lol.
-Backstage distractions such as partying and women.
-Coaches not trusting him, even after he scored 30.
-Karakter problem?
-Apparently, his sister was a bit of a distraction too. (Model/Socialite worried about her cash cow)

A few years ago Mario Tremblay went on a French radio show and outted him for going to rehab in the offseason. It was a clown move by Tremblay, it’s important to keep that quiet because other players might need to go to rehab and avoid it due to fear of word getting out and damaging their reputation.

The same guy that drove Roy away and told a cop he was being an asshole like Subban?

All I can find are 'allegations' which nobody has ever confirmed and I think its probably safe to say the guy is just being a dickhead and trying to keep relevance by saying stuff like that.

I disagree. He can skate and dangle. His problem is his I.Q. Whether he should dangle, pass, dump, press on the gas.. he generally doesn't make the right decision. It's the reason why his zone entries are poor. Drouin is another one tbh. A guy who makes terrible decisions with the puck on his stick.

I hope he turns it around but in Pittsburgh the dude just flat out sucked.

Galchenyuk played every single game on the Pens with a groin injury he suffered in the preseason... what's funny is the same situation happened with Brassard

Lacks hockey IQ in my opinion, but he's very talented and can dazzle you with his skill when he's playing with confidence. Unfortunately his confidence is likely at an all-time low right now given some of the issues he's apparently been dealing with and moving from team to team over the past couple years, but a low pressure environment like Ottawa might just be what the doctor ordered to get him back to form. I still really like him as a player and I hope he can still find some success in the NHL.

His dad is known to be way too involved in his progression as a hockey player, which is not a good thing at this level.

As of now, he has good hands and a good shot but no hockey IQ, that’s what hinders his game IMO.

Kostitsyn 2.0

A combination of things: Had some good tools, but wasn't great at any one thing. Not a great skater. Good shot, but didn't use it enough, and wasn't too accurate. His stickhandling was an enigma... sometimes he could go around anyone and anything, but most of the time he'd overhandle the puck and lose it or get taken off the puck way too easy. Habs development also didn't help; playing him on wing instead of center and then seemingly demoting him after showing some flashes. This team also has the mentality that every player should play defense first before they can graduate to anything offense oriented.

Substance abuse is still a rumor.

As someone said he can't dangle and skate at the same time. It's his ultimate flaw because dangling is his best skill but he just never really get anything out of it.

He's got a great shot and I really really wish someone would play him on his off side (RW) because all his goals seems to come from there. I bet if he played there he'd find his true place in the NHL. I remember seeing replays of his goals one year and they all came from the right side, but he never played there with the Habs. It pissed me off beyond belief.

He's not incredible defensively but I've seem worse. To me it's not something that would hold him back if he can produce offensively.

Well, he leads his draft year in NHL games played and is second in his draft year in NHL points. You might want more from a 3OA but he's not exactly a bust nor was he a bad pick in that slot in that draft year

Someone here said he played with a groin issue last season. I don't know anything about that but it does explain his numbers falling off the map.

As an Ottawa fan I didn't know what to make of this move and still don't really but it's a no risk contract and if he is healthy and motivated he might pleasantly surprise
