OT: Whatcha Drinkin' II: Another Round!

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

In the meantime, feel free to join our Discord Server
So apparently this is a thing:

Heading back to Islay this year for Feis Ile again.

Really hoping we just get waved through customs on the way back like they did last time. That was a lovely surprise.

Hoping to find a bottle of Octomore while I'm there, could not find any last time we visited.

Barring a festival release from someone else really doing it for me, probably going to focus on bringing back one of every Kilchoman releas this time. Love Kilchoman and think they have a really interesting operation (they grow their own barley and do all their own malting). Last time we tried to get a bottle from every distillery.

Would love to get a bottle of Port Ellen now that they've reopened, but I think the only bottles they'll have available will be their 40+ year old stuff which I'm not paying for.

Anyone here have a poison or distillery of choice from Islay?

Laphroaig is my go-to, Ardbeg is probably my second favorite overall.

I am currently drinking a nightcap of 1 part liqueur to 2 parts spirit, pretty common for me. Good way to enjoy a variety of nice liqueurs, which are otherwise too sweet for me.

The spirit is just some average french brandy, nothing special. The liqueur is a bottle I got during a cleanout of somebody's apartment when they were moving to a retirement home hosted by a buy nothing-like group (not buy nothing, there's drama with the local group that's too much to go into). Lochan Ora, a scotch based liqueur. Honey and herbs, think Benedictine but with a smoky scotch base. Quite wonderful, really. I've been sipping at it, and decided to google it to see who carried it. Turns out, it's discontinued and people pay outrageous prices (up to thousands of dollars) for unopened or even partial bottles.

So, turns out that my Sunday nightcap (and anything I put this stuff in) is one of the most valuable drinks I've ever had. I won't be selling, but won't be taking this stuff for granted, either.
