Why is everyone assuming the top line will get broken up?
It's needed and they were broken up this morning during the flow drills.

They have been more effective thus far than McD - Girardi IMO. It's a luxury that we have 2 pairings that can be our top 2, so give the minutes to the pairing that's playing the best.
Thus far, I think that pairing has been Staal - MDZ. If that pairing falls off or if McD - Girardi otherwise play better than Staal - MDZ, then they get the top 2 minutes.
Don't see why that's controversial.
All indications are that Brian Boyle will be a healthy scratch tonight. Boyle haters rejoice!
And when you're done doing that, tell me out of Richards, Stepan, and Miller you want lining up opposite of Tavares.
When everyone's back (Sunday)
Hagelin - Richards - Gaborik ... (Hags is going now, reunite that line, put Gabs on the RW)
Pyatt - Stepan - Nash ... (a lot of size here, maybe not enough speed but good net presence)
Kreider - Miller - Cally ... (try it, sounds great - ease Cally in)
Boyle - Halpern - Powe ... (thats a good 4th line and it puts Boyle on the wall)
McDonagh - Girardi
Stall - Del Zotto
Stralman - Eminger
Scratched - Asham (does nothing), Bickel (bad), Gilroy (have no clue why Eminger isnt in instead of him)
Lundqvist (needs games to get into it)
Similar to my lines except i have Pyatt and Kreider switched. WOuldnt mind it your way either.
Only thing I take issue with is Gilroy on the third pair. Would rather have Eminger there. Dumbfounded why he isnt getting a real chance (3-4 games straight to prove hes better than Gilroy or Bickel)
BTW, where's McIlrath? Shouldn't he be in that spot by now ?
In the past two seasons Boyle has been on the ice for 3 of Taveras' points (including PP). Over the same span, Taveras has been on the ice for 3 of Boyle's points.Halpern will do fine. Let's just say that i'm glad it isn't Boyle. Tavares has dominated us the last two years lining up against the Pitch Back.
I totally agree that it should be Eminger in the lineup over Gilroy, but something has happened and Torts just wont let the guy play. Everybody is clamoring for a #6 who can play ~12 mins a night, well, we have one. Its just that Torts doesnt play him anymore. He did it last year for us and other years on other teams.
Edit: However, as Machinehead said, Gilroy has not played bad at all with the time hes been given. I guess we will see tonight when they are both in the lineup. haha

Is it possible it wasn't as dominant as you're remembering?

Don't fool him with stats, he just hates boyle and doesn't look past the fact that he can't be a rick nash type player.
I must have missed that talk...What upsets me is all the talk of moving him to the PP because he is big or to a top 6 wing position.

I feel like Torts should show Boyle some trust and see if sitting lit a fire. Put em on a giant line with Nash. Try this:
Hagelin Richards Gaborik
Pyatt Boyle Nash
Miller Stepan Callahan (give miller less defensive responsibility by putting him on wing)
Kreider Halpern Powe (that line is fast, work Kreider in on the top lines)
Sit Asham - tb doesnt fight.
That's deep
And once again, the guy couldn't hack it as a 3rd line center, so you're making him a second line center? Are you serious? The guy should be nowhere near the THIRD line on an AVERAGE NHL team.
Boyle-Richards-Gaborik
Kreider-Stepan-Nash
Hagelin-Miller-Callahan
Powe-Halpern-Asham
Now Boyle is a 1st liner? The hell? Over Pyatt in the lineup? Pyatt is not some great player, but he's way better than Boyle. Last game we finally had top 9 players playing in the top 9. Hags and Pyatt are better as 3rd liners, but they can contribute to the top 6.
For the 50th time, i don't hate Boyle. I don't hate any Ranger. I hate the way he is used. He is a 4th line center; nothing more. If he was centering our 4th line getting 5 - 7 ES minutes i wouldn't complain. What upsets me is all the talk of moving him to the PP because he is big or to a top 6 wing position. Also the premise that he is an excellent 3rd line player makes me ill. That's all i'm sayin'
I must have missed that talk...
