Line Combos: What Would Your Lineup Look Like After The Recent Moves?

Hagelin. Richards. Gaborik
Worked last year.

Kreider. Stepan. Nash
Stepan and Kreider worked last year. Want Nash with Kreider, open space for him let him bang in some rebounds and get confidence.

Ferriero. Boyle. Callahan
Speed and tenacity.

Arnott. Halpern. Pyatt

Distribute the speed and scoring. Try to find chemistry. And please use the whole bench.

McDonagh. Girardi
Staal. Stralman
Del Zotto. Gilroy

Bickel to Hartford. Asham, Rupp, Eminger the spares.

Want to see if Gilroy's skating can help generate offensive pressure. See if he can still play at this level, if not, back to Hartford, bring Bickel back. No re-entry waivers to worry about.

Basically this but I'd rather have Arnott taking those 4th line faceoffs instead of Halpern. This is the absolute best way to distribute 4 good lines with the roster we have currently. Yes, Nash has been scoring with Richards and Gaborik, but so will anyone. Hagelin is a good fit with Gaborik and can do a lot of the dirty work that line needs.

Stepan's best (really, only) asset is his passing and playmaking abilities, so putting him alongside Nash makes some sense. Plus they both play a little defense. Putting Kreider with some other skill guys gives him the opportunity to show off his speed and help out in the playmaking department. Also opens up the ice for him to get some better shots off.

If Ferreiro keeps playing like this he's earned a regular spot here. He showed some chemistry with Callahan in his first game and Boyle and Callahan play well together. Good energy line with Callahan providing some offense.

Arnott should help in the faceoff department, and Halpern and Pyatt are much better hockey players than Asham or Rupp. Pyatt has been playing top 6 minutes but really isn't ready for that, so if Torts would be less stubborn and run this line out for 7-10 minutes per game I think they can do some damage.

D is the same but I don't trust a pairing with DZ and Gilroy together, I'd rather have Eminger out there with DZ. At least he knows his place.

Nevermind that he has the game to be on the 2nd-3rd line, the Rangers ain't paying ARNOTT 1.2 to 1.6 mill to play on the 4th line......Imagine an about 4.5 mill 4th line of ARNOTT between the two cement heads...Kinda humorous

I hate having all your eggs in one basket, but the top line has looked good. Boyle is not a second line player, he needs to be on the 3rd line. Cally and Steps don't mesh, this isn't a surprise so lets balance out the lines. My only concern is the speed of the second line, but this gives us 3 lines we can roll, once we get Kreider back we can take Rupp out and push Arnott down.

I really don't think Ferrerio is going to be in ahead of a vet like Halpern but maybe I am wrong. I also think Kreider is going down as they wont rush him but I could be wrong and hope I am, would love to see him do well right away

With that said I want it to be

Nash, Richards, Callahan
Kreider, Stepan, Gaborik
Hagelin, Arnott, Pyatt
Rupp, Boyle, Asham
Halpern

I do think however Kreider and Ferrerio are down and Halpern plays full time. They go with 12 F on the roster and call up when needed as they have been doing. I really dont want to see Segal and Newbury up again if everyone stays healthy

I'd really like to see Kreider playing on a healthy ankle before he gets relegated to the AHL, so with that in mind...

Nash/Richards/Cally - Goal Scorer/Playmaker/Puck Retreiver with some offensive skill

Kreider/Stepan/Gabby - Puck Retreiver with some offensive skill/Playmaker/Goal Scorer

Hagelin/Boyle/Pyatt - Speed and size with some offensive production from Pyatt and (hopefully) Hags

Asham/Halpern/Ferriero - Veteran Grit, Faceoffs, and a little extra speed and energy from Ferriero

If Ferriero could play center on a regular basis (don't know if he can), I'd consider switching him and Boyle - would make for a pretty quick 3rd line.

Defensive pairings stay the same

McDonagh/Girardi

Staal/Del Zotto

Stralman/Eminger

Bickel or Gilroy as 7th

I am still 100% okay with seeing the lines stay as they were to end the game against Toronto.

Do the Rangers need another forward? Sure. But they need a #6 d-man who can play more than 5 minutes a night more.

Hagelin-Richards-Gaborik wasn't nearly dynamic enough last season. While I understand and appreciate the desire to spread out the offensive prowess, I think all three of Nash, Richards, and Gaborik are incredibly more potent while playing as a trifecta.

That's the issue. If he won't let him win his trust, then Sather needs to ask Torts, who can we get? We can't be playing the top-4 25+ minutes a night every night. Especially before the playoffs.

Agree 100%. I'm sure Torts has forgotten more about the game than I'll ever know, but it's just frustrating when he seems to be stubborn just for the sake of being stubborn. His inexplicable man-crush on Bickel is another example of that.

Tortorella really confuses me sometimes. Eminger has looked perfectly capable and worthy of that 6th spot since he's re-entered the lineup. Biggest difference between him and Bickel is the foot speed, which is critical on defense. If Bickel has any future in the NHL, it ought to be on the four line as a winger.

cally and steps have no chemistry together

Yeah, I agree with this. Perhaps Pyatt might be a better option on the second line instead.

Boyle should never be seeing second line minutes. Ever. Callahan is there only because of his chemistry (or there lack of) with Stepan, and Kreider played well with Stepan in the playoffs last year.

I think this spreads out the offensive threat effectively while keeping the EWF line together.

Oh, I agree. I don't want him anywhere near the 2nd line.

What I'm saying is, I think if those are the lines, Torts will be giving Boyle's line more ES time than Steps' line.

Would like to see:
Nash - Richards - Callahan
Hagelin - Stepan - Gaborik
Kreider - Boyle - Pyatt
Ferriero - Halpern - Asham

Speed, scoring and grit on all three top lines.

Potentially, but this is just what the lineup would be if I had any sort of influence and could affect playing time.
