What would you trade Larkin for... a thought exercise

Why will we get him now but not free agency? At the end of the day the power is all with Kyle connor, if he wants to be a redwing a year from now he can force his way now or just wait. And if he wants to go to a cup contender even if we traded for him he’d refuse an extension and test the market

Maybe the jets just try they’re luck again with him and refuse to deal him or try to get an extension by the deadline. Again all in connor’s control. I can’t imagine he’ll want to live in Winnipeg another 9 yrs

Yzerman’s not getting moved 😂 I think fans have unrealistic expectations. All the work he did is about to pay off in the next 2-3 yrs cause everyone’s arriving. Don’t forget he came here with basically Dylan larkin and nothing else(Rasmussen and Berggren is pretty much nothing)

Takes time to draft and develop guys and for them to make they’re way into the lineups and get experience. I’ll grant you his Ufa signings have been horrible but his draft has been good. I’ll be rooting to get in the playoffs but I don’t even think being a bottom 8 team and somehow adding a McKenna to everything we already have and then adding Connor in free agency wouldn’t be the best thing longterm

I always said larkin would be gone as soon as his ntc expires and never saw debrincat signing a 7 yr deal here , seider and Raymond aren’t going anywhere. Again like I said everything is about to pay off but unless a pellikka becomes a makar right off the bat they’ll be growing pains. Can’t expect asp to get 60 pts year one and lombardi to get 50 etc..

I’d trade my first and get Romanov and try to fix the team now but we all know we can’t force teams to make moves . It wouldn’t be the most shocking thing if this team didn’t make the playoffs with all the new players coming in

The only way Detroit gets Connor now is Connor tells WPG he’s not interested in a long term deal. Detroit would have to be REALLY aggressive to make that work.

As for Yzerman, him not being moveable IS a problem. We need a manager that can be held accountable for failure.

I get the good young players are starting to arrive, but there’s still a lot of the crap Yzerman signed on the roster clogging up spots. A GM needs to do more than draft well to be successful.

As for Romanov, I like him but I hate the expected value of the guy is a mid 1st. He’s a good defensive defenseman that plays physical but he’s a black hole on offense. Guys like that shouldn’t cost more than a 2nd or a 3rd and a B prospect. I would rather move the 1st for Byram if Buffalo is interested in making that move before trading for Romanov.

I don't know what to make of Ehlers and truthfully haven't watched him enough to have a strong opinion one way or another.

That said, for the last 3 seasons Winnipeg used him as more of 2nd/3rd line tweener and PP specialist.

Is he a bona fide, reliable top 6er misused by the Jets (year after year) or is he an unreliable middle 6er that was stashed into a specific role for good reason?

He also has a history of wilting in the playoffs. He's breaking through that this season but the body of (playoff) work points back to unreliability.

I've got a lot of buyer beware feelings on Ehlers. Especially at a big cap hit.
Yeah, my concern with Ehlers is you will need to pay a premium and he’s not a true driver, more of a passenger. I’d be fine with paying top dollar for Marner because he produces and he’s a fixture at EVS, and on the PP and PK. He is a big contributor in all phases of the game.

If we are going to spend, it’s gotta be on elite talent that still has a decent amount of tread left. So guys like Marner, Kyle Connor, etc. We need to be smart with free agency going forward now that we’ve got core pieces like Mo, Ed, Ray, etc.

If you are shopping in free agency, it’s gotta be one of three pieces: scoring line winger (ideally LW), a top 4 elite defensive defenseman, and a #1 goalie given the wait for Cossa or Augustine to turn into a quality NHL goalie.

Ehler's is someone else's Berggren that was allowed to be a scorer.

Yup Connor would have to be the one to tell Winnipeg he will become a Ufa. Again it’s all in connor’s hands ,if he tells Winnipeg he wants to go back to Detroit and would only sign an extension with them we’d have another debrincat situation where it’s like here’s a conditional 1st + buium + Berggren type deal and stfu

Other option to Winnipeg is send him off at the deadline as a rental for a similar deal or play him the whole season. If it’s known it’s detroit his #1 destination and he’s coming home jets have no leverage

It’s not a problem. If Yzerman came here right now with what we have in the pipeline and team and did nothing for 5-6 yrs then yes fire him . He came here with literally nothing. I think fans had unrealistic expectations, we were never gonna going to be cup contenders. So far before this season we had seider & raymond from his drafting and that’s it. We now have Kasper, edvinsson & johansson with 1 nhl season experience under them, and Soderblom but he hasn’t had a full season

Asp Cossa Augustine Lombardi johansson danielson buchelnikov kiiskinen finnie And god knows who else I’m missing have yet to even make an appearence. If the drafting turns into duds then yes Yzerman deserves to be fired. All the work he put in is about to come

Yes I agree the signings have been bad , that being said there’s nothing he can do if they want to go to better teams or locations atm. He’s gotta build a good team so good players will come. I hated the copp tarasenko and compher deals the moment it happened. I do think it happened cause illitch told him they wanted to compete sooner to fill up the arena. If it were up to him he would have tanked a bit more the previous seasons which wouldn’t have been a bad thing now that we look back

Anyways I always said it would be 26-27 would be the year we’d take over and put the league on notice. Happens this year even better if not maybe we get McKenna Stenberg etc..

Doesn’t Byram suck defensively though?hasnt he been injured last few sessons? I think we need more physicality on the back end and guys who can block shots etc... if pellikka becomes what we hope he will we’ll be ok. I think there’s more there from edvinsson and seider to give. I wouldn’t hate the Byram though

What are the chances that Kyle Connor would take a stand that he would only play in Detroit?

1,000,00 to 1?

Every NHL player born in Michigan is not going to tell the entire NHL that he'll only play for Detroit. It's absurd. Beyond the idea that anyone really looking at a short window to win is not going to come to Detroit right now

I could be off base, but I really don't see a 13OA pick as having quite that much value. Didn't Carlo go for Mitten and a 1st?

I too would rather use the pick to acquire Byram, but again, I don't see what incentive Buffalo has to acquire more picks at this point. They need useful roster players.

A late first is a lot different, and prices are always higher at the deadline.

There’s a podcast tonight on YouTube with a local clown the sick podcast with tony marinara .... Craig button is on and the headline says he would go after mason mctavish for the habs

Guess everyone has the same idea as us ... is there something out there that says mctavish is on the market? I can’t imagine verbeek would have any interest moving him, we always hear of zebras in trade rumours

Why do people want Byfield if we traded Larkin to LA? He is far inferior in every way to Larkin and doesn't seem to me to be improving. He matched his pt totals from the season before, but he also played 2 more minutes per game. To me he seems like an ok player and that is it. If this was a straight up trade, this would be brutal for Detroit. He also sucks in the faceoff dot. When watching him, he doesn't seem like a star or top end player at all. He is kind of trending like Lafreniere as just decent players.
