I've not been overly impressed with Schenn in the NHL. *shrug* I would expect the Flyers would want Myers.

Nothing. Overrated. Passed on by the Kings and now potentially the Flyers? His offensive numbers are going to dwindle with even less talent around him in Buffalo. And to the people who are immediately going to say, "So stats are everything, huh?" Yes, they f***ing are when you're talking about this team. We need SOMEBODY in our lineup who can score 30 goals besides Matt Moulson (and he will probably not even be here come summer).

We have enough hardworking players in Foligno, Girgensons, Larsson, Tropp, Flynn. Their defensive games will all come along with time. What we need to do now is sprinkle in some sniping wingers or a legit 1c. If you can't acquire these pieces through trade, then draft. Don't settle for someone like B. Schenn. Not who we need.

Schenn is already better than all of these players and likely will be for the duration of their respective careers. Not wanting to add him because he isn't a #1 center or an elite sniper is like deciding to not watch any movies if they are not The Godfather.

I'd add to this package

if we could get Schenn without giving up Myers... I'd do it...

it's weird to me how much fans lose interest in young players who aren't immediately super stars.

I agree with Zip that there is a bit of redundancy with him and Hodgson... but you can't ignore the talent, and you can't ignore the need we have at center for talent.

Would I much rather get a Couturier/Oreilly... definitely... but if we could leverage some of our depth in unproven assets, for a high end asset that has already started "proving" himself... the quicker the rebuild...

we probably don't have the asset Philly wants (a proven top defensemen).... but boy would it be nice if the recapture on Ehrhoff didn't exist... because an Ehrhoff for Schenn deal would be perfect.

People are down on Schenn because of the time his development curve is taking... the same people were down on Kadri a year ago as well...

He was used to land Mike Richards in a trade. He was not passed on.

I think Schenn's asking price will be too high given the bust factor in him.

Who are his linemates in Philly this year?

So what if he's better? Good for the Flyers. We have enough of players of his mold. Besides that I would argue that Girgensons and Foligno could eclipse Schenn's level of talent at some point down the line. We need somebody whose main job is to score goals or we'll be in the basement year after year until the end of time. If your team can't pot three goals on a consistent basis, you're not going to win many games regardless of how good your D and goaltending are.

So like I said, don't settle for Schenn via trade. Use your assets smarter and build through the draft and get the pieces your team actually needs. Schenn would become the new Stafford in that the effort would be there night after night, but the results would not be.

Spot on. If he's legitimately available the sabres should be inquiring. The kid is only 22.

I don't like accruing guys with "effort problems" and "invisible" tags following them around. If you wanted to, you could probably pretty readily pluck a roster full of guys with high draft numbers who all have effort problems.

That said, I would still take him for the right price. That price just doesn't include Myers, Risto, Z, or either of our firsts this year (the NYI pick is looking like it could go top 5).

In which case the Islanders would make that pick. Such an outcome is the exact reason Snow negotiated that clause into the trade. That pick is definitely trade-able, especially in light of this new regime's purportedly sped up timetable in general, and Lafontaine's stated willingness to trade picks for young up and coming NHLers in particular. Schenn fits that description to a T.

Quite a bit, but like Jame, I'd be more interested in a young two-way center.

I've been looking at rosters league-wide (with an emphasis on contenders) trying to pick out some young players that could fit into the rebuild. Guys in the Drury/Briere mold; 20-somethings with experience. I always come back to the Oshies of the league.
