Robertson, Kämpf, Gregor, järnkrok, Holmberg, don’t seem like playoff players, at least the type you guys want. lol!

Dump guys that dont bring it in the PO.

Bring guys in that bring it in the POs.

Hockey is only rocket science to MLSE. For everyone else the eye test does a pretty good job at putting a team together.

Someone has to say this because the Leafs most like wont. Remember that the Marlies should be coached almost identically to the Leafs. You need to mention things like that because MLSE tends to scatter brain and lose the plot. You know like Brian Burke getting truculance for your run and gun coach Wilson.
so i guess matthews is out the door

But how many more wins would they have had if he wasn’t there. They lost the last 4 games because someone wanted him to be the player that got him 70 goals I always thought this was a team sport not a individual sport
Maybe it’s just another fallacy, you know like, the only bad shot is the one you don’t take _ see Marner shot criticism

It’s the team 1st, yet not one top player in the league is taking minimum pay to help his team. Team 1st to a point really means me 1st.

4x4 for Domi. He can play LW1 and 3C.

Our biggest needs are 2 gaping holes in the forward. 2C and 1RW. I'd address one of these in the Marner trade and getting a pick. I think it would be cruel to give Nylander another year with Tavares at 2C. Matthews has done it with Brown and stuff so I'd lean towards a centre.

In FA with the savings from Marner and letting Bertuzzi walk. I'd sign Montour. He fits our cores timeline, which is the next 4 years.

I'd also like to trade Rielly. He doesn't bring more value to the PP2 than say Lilly. Right now he's an asset, later he'll be a negative. I guess the way I look at it is Rielly in 2026 is likely to be kinda ugly. I wouldn't be surprised if he had a Tavares like decline.

Our team will probably be 50/50 again 1st round, but in 2025 with Tavares off the books, the team can really compete. Cowan ideally is a top 6 guy, maybe replaces Domi. Oh, I like Knies and Nylander and think they should be stapled together.

All of the core are playoff disappointments. All of them. Whataboutism is a loser mentality IMO.

The difference is that Marner and Tavares have 1 year left on their contracts, while AM and WN are signed long-term with trade protection. Those last two are going nowhere unless they ask out for whatever reason. Our only hope of generating desperately needed change is if 1 or more of Marner/Tavares aren't extended because it's literally the only possible way to have the cap space to balance this team. We need a LOT to be a real contender and with the Four Horsemen we don't have the space to acquire it.

The culture needs to change, the players need to change and the cap allocation needs to change. I am 100% not at all directing this at you, but any fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs that is happy with running the entirety of this core back long-term is anti-competitive, delusional, holds a monetary interest or more than one of those. I will hear no argument otherwise. The regular season is nothing more than a play-in tournament after failing embarrassingly in the postseason over and over and over again.

Sorry for coming off abrasive at you, wasn't really my intent. They should have shaken this core up after Columbus or Montreal. It never should have even gotten to this point and that is what is frustrating. We should have much higher ambitions than being a big-market version of the goddamn Calgary Flames, a team scraping by for any speck of playoff revenue in order to balance a f***ing quarterly budget sheet and with no real interest or hope in winning the whole thing. Nothing other than a Stanley Cup should motivate Leafs ownership because they stand to have a shot to make a fortune if they are just willing to take a risk. They won't win otherwise, so to that extent it isn't as much of a risk if you think about it.

but what about the other players that were playing to win it was all to say we had a 70 goal scorer but he did shit in the playoffs
As I said, winning those games may not have made any difference, and it wasn't just Matty (and Willy) - the rest of the team were trying to get them the milestones too.

Matty 'did shit in the playoffs'? Shared the lead in points despite missing two games and being under the weather for at least a couple more. Same as Willy - missed three games but led the team in goals.

Matty and Willy were our two best players, along with Woll.

Yeah they arent untouchable. If anything better is available you do the deal.
no one should be untouchable, I men if moving them makes the team better go for it. Also good for business, think of all the new jersey sales........

If entire core four returns then it doesn't matter what other moves are being made. The added 4.5m to the cap has already been spent on Nylander alone.

We won't get Montour.

Talk Marner into waiving. Don't overpay Bert. Sign Domi $3.5 m on 3 year. Sign every good Ufa dman possible. Get a vet goalie, true number one. Trade for more picks. Draft a C or D first round.

Out: Tavares, Marner, Brodie, Rielly

In: Lindholm, Montour and Skjei

Yeah we still don't have a 1D but we'd have 2 2D and that's pretty good.

Leafs trade Marner + Tavares + McCabe + Minten + Hildeby + 1st(2024) for Kadri + Andersson + Markstrom

Leafs trade Jarnkrok + Robertson + Liljregren + Niemela + 1st(2025) + conditional 1st(2027)* for Graves + Karlsson(50% retained)
*Leafs win the cup any year 2025-2027

Leafs sign Montour (7)

Bertuzzi(5)/Matthews(13.5)/Nylander(11.5)
Knies(1)/Kadri(7)/Cowan(1)
McMann(1)/Domi(3)/Holmberg(1)
Reaves(1.35)/Kampf(2.5)/Dewar(1)

Montour(7)/Karlsson(5)
Rielly(7.5)/Andersson(4.5)
Benoit(1)/Graves(4.5)

Markstrom(6)
Woll(1)

Total = 85.35 (1.65 remaining)

Calgary faces facts and starts cleaning house and building futures for the inevitable tank. They can flip Marner or rebuild around him. Who cares.

PIttsburgh faces facts and starts cleaning house and building futures for the inevitable tank. Dubas gets a retun on two moves that didn't work out for him last year.

Leafs face facts and finally break up the core four. The entire defense is reconstructed and the best starting goaltender they've had since Matthews was drafted is brought in. Along with a fan favourite and cup winner in Kadri.

This might be the most ridiculous post I've come across ever. If you're doing this tongue-in-cheek, accept my apologies.

Nevermind that Marner and Tavares want to stay and we can't do a damn thing about it, you're mortgaging 3 1sts, our future goalie Hildeby, our 2nd best defenceman McCabe, a future good third liner Minten, a young 20 goal scorer, and other future pieces for Karlsson, Kadri, Markstrom? They've all seen better days. I'm sorry, not realistic trades.
