What would you do with picks #16 & 17?

A scenario I'm very interested in is a falling Porter Martone on draft day. I could easily see it unfold something like this where teams snag all the centers early:

1. NYI - Schaefer
2. SJ - Misa
3. Chicago - Frondell
4. Utah - Desnoyers
5. Nashville - Hagens
6. Philly - Martin

I'm getting on the phone with Boston at #7 and making a big offer with #16, 17 a 2nd rounder and even more. Unload the excess picks and add another stud. Boston might even pick O'Brian in this scenario and Martone is still there at #8.

Yes but Xhekaj is still a question mark and there is no one really in the pipeline as a LHD candidate with high potential.
Xhekaj is set: 3rd pair LD for years, would sign him 2,5m$ for 6 years and never look back. The series against the capitals could have been tighter with him in the lineup all serie. Bomb of a shot, fighter , good mobility. He will only get better and he already makes everyone better around him.

I’d keep X. I like what he brings.

That means we have Matheson and Struble to deal. Engstrom is another chip…

If somebody offers us a great offer for X though, I’d be ok with Struble as our third. He’s gritty as well. But I’d be inclined to keep X. It would have to be a really good offer.

Yes but it seems refs don't like X doing his job in Montreal. The same X with Vegas (or any major team in usa) he would be allowed to play the sheriff. Just my opinion based on observation.

X needs to get better at defense. Period.

Great enforcer but gets himself in trouble chasing hits and taking bad penalties.

To me this season is pivotal. If shows no improvement, then i think his days are numbered…

I don't think he will be. Columbus stuck with Lindstrom even though he had an obvious back issue.
There are no general consensus who would be the best pick at 16. Seems like after 12, the players have some flaws that makes them question marks. Even the best pick at 16 have strong chances to be picked at 15.
For all these reasons I would like Hughes to make trades and move his pick at #4 or 5. Habs needs to add quality vs quantity. A top center could be usefull in the future roster.

I think X would be better with another team. Refs hates him when he tries to play the sheriff with the Habs. I would like the Habs to have strong bottom six, having at least 3 players who coud drop gloves on accasions and one in the top 6. I think X could be one major element in a possible trade. Stricly hockey talking, he's not that great, his best utility for the Habs is his fighting ability.

Teams don't want those crappy picks in this draft especially mid to late 1st round pick, No teams at 7, 8, 9, or 10 is giving away their pick unless its for win now player. As been reported, there's only 1 team willing to sell

Every mock draft I read, there are, at least 2 players I’d like us to pick in the top 12-19. In fact (to a lesser degree) I see very good players that may fall and be available at 41 & 49.

We are still in our rebuild & teams don’t often have back to back, middle 1st round picks. If we keep the two picks our odds improve dramatically that one becomes that player. Let’s get this years Lane Hutson, cheers.

If Bear is available...Bear and Reschny would be adream for me.

If not.. Reschny and Kindel.

For those who think that Crosby did not slowed down.....

He did..big time.

I am his number one fan since Rimouski..but he is nota good 200 feet player anymore.....its the truth..he needs wingers with him to help him out in the d zone ...

He was with rust this year who is good defensively as a winger and Crosby struggled in the d zone big time cause he has not the same kind of energy that he had before and his backchecking are weak sometimes cause he plays deep in the o zone .

So Crosby with Demidov would be so exciting offensively but it would be complicated in the d zone..a lot..
I mentioned those same three draft options in a post of mine. We must have been separated at birth. :skeptic:

I'm convinced that we can pick up a defenseman and a towering forward in rounds 2-3. For round one, I want forwards with an elite hockey-optimized cortex and who are competitive as well, preferably centers. There will be some at 16 and 17.

lol @ at a 25 year old 6’3 100 point winger only being with a mid round 1st round pick, a 2nd round pick and Mailloux 😂

They’re hanging up immediately if the offer doesn’t start with Caufield + picks.
Robertson broke 100 points once and is very unlikely to ever do it again as that was the only time he ever scored more than 80 points.

I would hardly define him as a 100 point player.

I agree that the picks + Mailloux probably won't get it done as Dallas likely wants assets that are able to help them immediately or at the very least closer to helping them than mid 1st round picks and a project dman who still struggles mightily at times in the AHL. They need more toughness on the blue line as well as some more speed/sandpaper up front. I suspect that Arber Xhekaj would interest them as well as Owen Beck but it would take more than that to land Robertson. Perhaps both Xhekaj's as part of a larger deal that involves picks or other roster players? Xhekaj is a LHD and they really don't need a LHD so to be honest.....I don't think these teams are compatible trading partners if Dallas is looking for more immediate help.

I am not sold on Robertson as a target but just responding from Dallas' point of view and where they are from a competitive standpoint.

Robertson is basically the same age as Suzuki and was 5th in 5v5 p/60 and had a better p/60 than Suzuki this season. I wouldn't say its very unlikely he'll ever do it again in the same way I wouldn't say that its very unlikely Suzuki will get close to 90 points again.

I voted keep both only because I believe Montreal needs more in the system than Hage........ Roy/Beck etc. I know that our top forward picks graduated, but a prospect pool of soft wingers and 3rd-4th line centers doesn't fill me hope.

Suzuki continues to improve every single season while Robertson has regressed.

I find most of these stats meaningless without a ton of expert eye test to parse through the nonsense. There is a reason Kyle Dubas has become such a running joke.

Trade those picks for someone that can play right now. What would it take to get Lehkonen back?
