What would you do with picks #16 & 17?

The problem with the Habs is they never draft a top 6 center, except for Koivu and Plekanec. If you don't try, you wont get one I could say. They missed Getzlaf, Carter, Kopitar, Bergeron and Giroux. I know it was previous gms and the actual management could do something to get a top 6 C. I hope it will change. This year is good from 1 to 7 and maybe a future C is there, C are a rare breed, it don't come easy as Ringo would say.
We only need one more top 6 C. The long term solution may not come this summer. It may take some time. It seems we've recently missed out on PLD and Dylan Strome...

If reports are accurate, Mario is aggressively pursuing re-purchase of the Pens, Crosby will not be dealt IMO

PLD had red flags if I remember lol, he's wasn't very popular here. I like Strome better. Cozens was another one. He's another first name Dylan ...

We can expect some big move ... or not. Waiting can be better than make an huge mistake. Are we sure Hage in 2 years will fit the role? Do we need another option at center in case Hage doesn't deliver as we are expecting?

We shou lo d definitely have more irons in the fire than just Hage. Dach is still a potential future option. The key word is future option. He has a lot of work to do. But I would keep him around as either a bottom six winger or center, and see if he can get his stride back. Who knows, maybe in two years Dach beats out Hage...

I'm not a big fan of Dach. I was when he did well in pre season 2 years ago. When I saw him play at the bell center I saw what cameras don't show. He was staying along the board and watched Vegas players skating. By far he was the most lazy player on the ice. He never was where the action was, too slow and couldn't understand the play to be at the right place. I guess what explains part of this he was coming back too early after his injury. Now I'm not unpartial cuz I saw a very bad game from him, lol.

But yes, Dach is still another option on paper. I'm just not a beleiver on his case. We'll see.

That's one way to get core pieces without giving up core pieces in a trade: when they have red flags.

Amazing what Florida did getting Bennett, Reinhart, Verhegue, Mikola, Schmidt, OEL, Seth Jones, etc... when their values were low. Plus putting in the assets to get expensive Tkachuk.

Would add a 2nd to each of our firsts to try and get both in the Top 12. Then try and package later picks to get back in the 2nd.

Voted other.

Ideally, would trade 17+2nd+ x to move up and grab Martin or O'Brien (or secondarily McQueen). Use 16 to grab Bear/Nesbitt/Carbonneau.

If we can't move up for to grab a Centre prospect, I'd still consider moving up for Aitchison and stick with 16 for our second pick.

Alternative options I'd like:
- Trade them both for McTavish or Larkin if possible
- Super package to move into the top 5 and grab Misa/Desnoyers/Frondell.

Based on everything I have read there is a significant drop off after about the 12th pick so I am not sure most teams would do that.

I had heard that too. But is there a consensus top 12?

I've also heard speculation different teams' draft boards are all over the place after the top 2.

A smart gm does like the Panthers did. I like the work of Hughes/Gorton so far except when they draft Mesar, Aatos Koivu and the trades of Dach and Newhook. A bit of badluck with Dach I would say. I didn't liked the Laine experiment and still doesn't like it, expecially for a team who places the so called "culture" very high in their entreprise.

I like that we got a 2nd for Laine, amd a 1st for Monahan. 2nds are good to have to move up or get lucky with a Subban or Hutson, or just get a Beck. So far so good with all the 2nds HuGo have had: draft Beck, Hutson, or package them in a trade or move up. But since they've found good players they targeted in rounds 2 through 4 (Hutson, Beck, Fowler, Engstrom, Florian Xhekaj), I'm looking forward to seeing what they do with the Laine 2nd - and our two 2nds this year.

If Bear is available...Bear and Reschny would be adream for me.

If not.. Reschny and Kindel.

For those who think that Crosby did not slowed down.....

He did..big time.

I am his number one fan since Rimouski..but he is nota good 200 feet player anymore.....its the truth..he needs wingers with him to help him out in the d zone ...

He was with rust this year who is good defensively as a winger and Crosby struggled in the d zone big time cause he has not the same kind of energy that he had before and his backchecking are weak sometimes cause he plays deep in the o zone .

So Crosby with Demidov would be so exciting offensively but it would be complicated in the d zone..a lot..

The answer is an easy "no". We don't even know if he'll be a center at the NHL level. Even if he is, it will take a few years for him to mature at the position and to become effective on a playoff calibre team. He may have to ride shotgun with another center for 1-3 years as he adjusts to the NHL. It's a hard position to play at the NHL level with a ton of responsibility and it doesn't happen overnight.
