Speculation: What would it take…?

Seriously? As a Bostonian born and bred, I live and hope for good times and endure the bad times. I don't just turn my back during tough times. I find it inconceivable. It does not compute. And that means Celtics Bruins Red Sox Patriots, BC, Roxbury Titans, the Fleet............

If it ever got really, really bad, I would just tune out the NHL entirely. I don't know what the breaking point would have to be though. As bad as this season was, I still followed along but with a great deal of indifference.

This post makes me wonder: what would it take for you to say “f*** the Bruins. I’m done”? Even more, what would have to happen for you to switch allegiances? Who would your new team be? Would you thow your bruins gear in the trash or burn it?

What would your breaking point be? And don’t say you don’t have one. Everyone does.
I'm too old and have too much time invested in being a Bruins fan to quit being a Bruins fan

..although

if the reffing gets any worse and/or the league keeps making it harder and harder and much more expensive to watch games, I can see myself becoming less interested

If I ever did reach my breaking point (which is unlikely since I stayed loyal for 39 years between 1972 and 2011), I wouldn't burn or trash a perfectly good jersey or memorabilia when I could make some extra cash on the side by selling them

The closest thing for me was the Mitchell Miller debacle. That hit close to home and I'm still pissed at B's management for taking the fifth on who made the decision. But I learned long ago to move on and understand that people make terrible decisions but that I shouldn't let it affect me to an unhealthy extent. So I remain a diehard Bruins fan.

If they do something stupid that sets the franchise back a decade like trading Pasta for nothing or blowing a high draft pick I might throw in the towel for a while.

I can’t think of a breaking point. The B’s will always be my team. I may feel less attached to certain iterations but I will always be a Bruins fan.

I’d never burn a jersey. I think that’s dumb.

As for who my teams would be IF I wasn’t a Bruins fan, I guess Philadelphia as I’ve always loved their sweaters and liked their culture. Chicago as I was huge Ed Belfour fan and he made me want to be a goalie. Or even St. Louis as we had season tickets to the Ice Cats when I was a kid so I had a vested interest in the guys that made the big club.

I've seen what being a Bruins fan can do to a person (dad) and I still decided to become one before they won the cup.

There's no breaking point for me.
