What would be the one thing you change before G7?

Put literally anyone in there over Joe Thornton. Tie Mitch marner up in a basement and torture him until he swears he’ll come to play
 
I'd remove Thornton replacing him with (anyone), move Foligno to 1LW, stick Nylander or Spezza on 2C, keep that 3rd line intact, assuming Dermott has to play 2LD that means Sandin goes 3LD with Bogo.

Oh I'd also play Galy on the PP2 and set him up for the one timer. And for God's sake STOP trying to force the downlow play on the PP - there is NOTHING there.
 
There's no addition now that will really improve the team.

Thornton out is the obvious move. I think you put in Brooks for some energy.

Spezza needs to play more. If this is going to be the last game forget conserving him for the rest of the playoffs. I would replace Thornton with Spezza on the PP.

Posted this in the PGT, but I want this.

This is what I would like next game..

Simmonds - Matthews - Marner
Galchenyuk - Kerfoot - Nylander
Hyman - Engvall - Mikheyev
Thornton - Spezza - Foligno or Brooks

Line 1: Marner has looked scared of contact this series, he has 3 delay of game penalties. Matthews has been awful, and Hyman has been a giveaway machine. Montreal has also been taking liberties at Marner/Matthews all game. Simmonds will make those two feel comfortable.
Line 2: Don't fix what ain't broke. Kerfoot and Nylander have been easily our best forwards this series. Get this line back together, Foligno is clearly playing hurt.
Line 3: Hyman will fit in better with this line. A bunch of hard working, good skating third liners. I've liked the way engvall has played, I also think this line could be a secret weapon.
Line 4 - Spezza looked good. I think we should go with brooks rather than playing a hurt Foligno.

What they need is Matthews and Marner to be productive. Change the decks chairs all you want, but nothing is going to change unless their top guys pull their weight.
 
Guys, it's already too late...the series is over.
They already have their tails between their legs. Bringing in Thornton, Simmonds, Bogosian, Spezza, Foligno cannot change the fact that your main core is not clutch. They can only do so much on the tail end of their careers.

I'm honestly considering taking a couple years off to think about my priorities. I spend too much time thinking about this team and watching their games...maybe there's something better to do out there than follow a cursed franchise.

9 one things

i'd swap marner and nylander
i'd bench simmonds and put in robertson on first line LW
i'd bench thornton and put in brooks
i'd bench holl and put in liljegren (on top of sandin replacing muzzin)
i'd move hyman to third line (hyman/kerfoot/engvall)
i'd move mikheyev to 4th line
i'd put our PP as marner, matthews, nylander, robertson and sandin, nylander shifting from half wall to net front with robertson
i'd keep that PP unit as a 2 minute unit
i'd stop dump ins and force possessed entries

we are losing to speed so let's actually bring speed

play a high tempo game, no clunky transitions, no more dump and chase garbage hockey which our team consistently sucks at

play to our strengths for once

FOR ONCE
