Value of: What would an Erik Karlsson contract look like if he hit the market as a UFA this summer?

I expect some contender will try to lowball him, like 6.5 but offer it for 9 years. Hoping he's an injury reserve in his last few seasons after he helps winnig a cup or two... And I'd jump on such offer being Karlsson because of course he can cash in big time for 1-3 years now but that contract might as well be his last.

I.E.
People on here acting like GMs always show wise financial constraint when they in fact never do.

Exactly, these guys could not help themselves. A UFA EK would have them suddenly finding money they didn't know they had.

His salary would be equal to the number of Erik Karlsson threads on the main boards

That's higher than his current contract!

Some of you guys are crazy, IMHO.

Sure, Karlsson could get 1 year x $anything he wants, but after that it's on a STEEP downward sliding scale to 4 x ~$8M max. If he wants longer it continues to decline down to 7 or 8 x $4M.

He's old..., not this year, but sometime soon. GMs have seen this type of peak season in the early thirties before. It's great to see, but they aren't going to be so mesmerized they forget decades of data.

GM's will certainly be willing to pay him a tonne, but IMO, the total $ dollar value is somewhere in the ~$25 to 30M range depending on term.
You haven't followed GMs when it comes to UFAs. He'd easily get his current contract in this league from a GM who needs to make a splash.

No, where near what he is making now. He will be 33 years old on top of that. He has been completely irrelevant for the last few years up until the season. trading for him is a trap.

I think he could easily get 11.500 x 4yrs
Over 6 years though, he's probably looking at closer to 10.000

End of season bump.

Let’s see who can be honest with themselves, or who is out to lunch.

You’re right. One thing NHL GMs have consistently show in free agency is restraint and pragmatism.

9m per tops. Teams don't forget that he's played no more than 56 games in a season since 2018.

Injury prone, 1 outlier year against multiple years of decline and 32 years old

9x4 or 9x5

When that 1 outlier season is the first 100 point season from a D since the Clinton administration, I suspect there’s at least a few GMs would take the gamble that “John Wick is BACK.”

Keep the $$ and term. Flip the years around 4,3,2,1 and drop the NMC.

Remove the NMC and the "buyout protection" in his contract and it's a good deal for a 100-point player. It's just a terrible fit currently for the Sharks with those two things in place.

Anyone giving him 10 mill with term will be the next san jose and they'd totally deserve it.
