So, all this Gabby and his potential worth/contract talk seems to be growing. I thought at first maybe somewhere around 5.5M sounded about right, but now, I'm thinking closer to 6M. Some even think 7M+ which I think is pretty crazy. I just don't see Gabby asking a lot from the kings. I think he'll accept below market to re-sign with us. So, let's put it in writing. What will Gabby's AAV will be with the kings (assuming he'll sign of course).

Edit: 4th and 5th poll options should read 6.6 to 7M & 7.1 to 7.5M respectively.

If the Kings pay over Six million, that is going to end up a bad contract in my mind.

Unless it's for only one year (sort of a trial).

with 10,77,23,32 all getting 5-6 million I think DL sells this to gabby and we all live happily ever after GO KINGS GO

ps 3 yrs and gabby retires with 2 rings

I don't factor in Quick because he's a goalie, but that's pretty much what I've been saying all along. He should be just a tad north of what Brown's making which is 5.8M.

You guys are nuts! If you think an elite player is going to sign for less that 6 million. Just rose-colored glasses myopic! You can throw all that good will etc out the door. When you wake up call me when he signs for between 6.5 and 7.5, either here or elsewhere. Seriously, reality check time.

Thanks for your input.

Gabby's already gotten his big payday. I'm thinking he's just happy to be back with the kings, and he's willing to take less to sign here, but we shall see.

If he is that expensive good riddance, this is not Gabo from seven years ago.

This guy is 32 not 25. Hasn't played a full season in how long ? People ***** about Richards, then want to turn around, and hand out another bad contract to Gabo.

You guys are advocating paying Gabo 32 years of age, the same money Doughty/Kopitar make.....Think about that.

Why do people always think guys are going to take discounts, every time people think that and guys very rarely do, unless they sign very long term contracts like Quick and Brown.

Why would anyone take a discount, especially a guy who is signing in California, with the state's ridiculous income tax rates on the highest earners. People always say UFA's avoid LA because of the travel, and some of that may be true, but don't think the 12.5% state income tax doesn't have anything to do with that.

I don't know. Why do you think that Kopi's going to ask for 8M??? Believe it or not, money ISN'T everything to every player. You seem to think that money is the ONLY thing that matters, when it isn't.

Why do I think Kopi will ask for $8, no offense but that's a stupid question, he will ask for $8 because that is the going rate for star centers.

How many players take discounts on short term deals?

And it's not always about a players greed, a player like Kopitar will set the bar for the way certain players are paid, there is union pressure to get the most money possible. That is a fact, whether you want to believe it or not, it works that way in all sports.

Why wouldn't he. Lousy tax rate = less pie to take home. If the cap continues to go up, what do we care what he makes. He is entering his prime and one of the top 5 overall players in this league by most accounts. He is the center of this team, no pun intended.

Believe it or not, money isn't everything. Besides, Gabby isn't going to exactly starve signing for 6M.

How about he's happy being a king. A chance to win another cup at the end of his career?

Gabo would not be taking a discount, the guy is not worth Six or Seven million on a longer term contract.

Neither is Brown, the Kings were stupid to pay him that much, that long. Guys this is not Gabo at 25 or even 28 years of age, this guy is 32 going to be 33 , and has a history of getting injured easy.

Agreed Brown was paid too much. He got rewarded for his lower deal he took earlier in his career. I don't see Dean trying to sign Gaborik to a more than a two to three year deal. The issue then becomes, you are not going to be able to reduce the cap hit significantly since it's short term. If he signs for anything less than 6.5 million per it will be a tremendous steal by Dean. We would not be playing in game five of the Western Conference finals if it wasn't for Gabby. He is in the driver's seat in the negotiations. Dean's best chance is if he front loads it with cash in year one, and reduces it sharply for years two and three to try and reduce the cap. Then he has to fight the cap and roster. When the money pool rises with the cap, so does the agent's position if the player is pivotal to a team's success. Gaborik has changed the dynamic of this team.
