Over a season, how much points will this generational talent get at his absolute peak?
Scoring at one rate over the course of a full 82gp grinding season is significantly harder than doing it for 1/4 -1/2 of a season. Simple as that.Surprising how people were sure he'd it over 150 early in this season when he was pacing for a monster career high and now none of the 15 voters thinks I will hit over 140 in his career.
Why couldn't he maintain that Gretzky pace? Is it a constancy problem, he burned himself out or the league just ajusted to him?
That would be great for hockey, the best we would have seen in the last 25 years.I think he gets 135+ once in his career
Him and Draisaitl have been slumping a bit this December, definitely some of their weakest play since the start of the 2020 season. Even in a "bad" stretch he had 16 points in 11 games.
Considering he is still on pace for 135 and is known for finishing the season strong, I think this year he could get 140 which would likely be his career high when its all said and done
135-140 is what I guessed preseason and I don't think its a bad prediction now
M.Stlouis won the hart in 2003-04 was behind the leading goal scorer by 3. Also joe Thornton.I am most interested in seeing if he will ever win the Rocket Richard Trophy (and obviously a Cup). Was there ever another player who was considered the best in the game, but never led the league in goals?
They weren't considered generational to the extend that McDavid his tho. But Connor still has a lot of time to win a rocket, maybe when Ovechkin retires and in a season where Matthews is injured it could happen.M.Stlouis won the hart in 2003-04 was behind the leading goal scorer by 3. P.Forsberg won the hart in 2003: never got over 30 goals in a season
The poster I was quoting specifically said has there been someone regarded as best in the game and not won a rocket? He didn’t ask if there had been any generational….They weren't considered generational to the extend that McDavid his tho. Fair point. The poster I was quoting specifically said has there been someone regarded as best in the game and not won a rocket? He didn’t ask if there had been any generational….

I know he is not Gretzky but his pace was pretty similar early on if we consider the era he's playing like you said. I thaught he was on his way to a sure 150 points+ season the way things were going. He is starting to get hot tho in the past 5 games, things still have time to change. He’s not Gretzky, but keep in mind Gretzky played in a higher scoring era. You can’t just compare the raw point totals.
Sam goes for someone like Coffey in comparison to current defenceman.

I understand M.Stlouis, Forsberg and Thornton are not considered generational players, but they have been the best player in the game at some point.
Sure they were, maybe for not a long time, but I think your wrong, your very wrongHart doesn't necessarily mean best player in the game though. That moniker has always existed separately. It don't think either of those were ever considered the best player in the game.

Crosby has 2 rockets and could’ve won a third in 2011 if his season didn’t end midwayJagr, Forsberg, argubly Thornton. Crosby in years he wasn't close in goals.
And I forgot, McDavid for the past five years.
