What were you dead wrong about with this team?

Absolutely nothing.

I have been 100% dead on correct on literally EVERYTHING about this team since Dubas inked the unprecedented dramatic overpayments.

We have only one game left where a player is still on said unprecedented dramatic overpayments.

And it all went precisely how I said it would. I was so correct that it was borderline prophesy.

The moment the overpayments were inked I said this team will be a great regular season pond hockey team where the overpaid greedy narcissists have all the space in the world. But we will never EVER go anywhere near deep in the playoffs. We won't be able to afford the depth necessary for when the going gets tough in the playoffs.

And oh how you all mocked me. You must all think I literally am a time traveller.

I think about your brilliance often

I was wrong as little as 14 hours ago when I thought there was NO way this team could not be fired up for this game. Forget the past. Tied 2-2 against the defending Champs, and you have home ice advantage. This is what you worked all season for. 34/16 were going to dominate. Woll would stand on his head. They would win battles, play hard, be physical.

Instead, I was wrong. The exact opposite in fact. A bunch of entitled, spoiled brats who refuse to rise to the occasion. An embarrassment.

The good news? We'll finally see an end to this if/when they lose this series.

I was wrong to ever give them the benefit of doubt.

When they were up 2-0 in the series even I was talking like it would be a given they would win. I guess I should have known better. Getting overexcited for something that has yet to happen is a sure path towards disappointment.

Premature celebration is embarassing.

Is blowing a 2-0 series lead better or worse than blowing a 3-1 lead?. Either way it blows. I suppose there's a possibility, no matter how small, they win the next two games.

Given their history I don't think there's much doubt what the outcome will be however.

Even their most ardent of supporters must be waivering in faith. I know I no longer think they'll win this series. It's my fault for allowing my hopes to get up in the first place.

Won't be making that mistake again.

I joke with friends about being "numb" to the Leafs and their embarrassments. The Kings series in '93 with the high stick...the Roenick goal in 2004.. the 4-1 game against the Bruins in 2013...these all picked at my Leafs soul...
However,
It was the Montreal series that finally did it for me. It made me numb to it all. They can no longer hurt me. All the collapses since and new ways to embarrass a proud fanbase is just an inevitable yearly occurrence.

So far I have been right in believing that the couple of posters who have been wrong the most either haven't posted here or claimed they were always right. :sarcasm:

Bow down to the prophet. You did it before the Habs/CBJ series. I had questions after Tavares year 2 decline like crazy.

new thing i was wrong about:

that this team was somehow different. Same choking core, same nonexistent depth, same horrid goaltending and same terrible special teams

names are different in places but play is the same.

Holmstrom, I'd say. I thought there was more there a year ago.

Woll. I didn't think he'd wilt like this given last year's performances.

Believing that Matthews and Marner (and thus the team) really were different in the lead up to these playoffs and our wins, right up until the OT 5-minute PP that went nowhere. But even that's qualified; The non-response by the league on Stolarz is really disheartening. The hit on Marner without a team response the next game, on top of the Stolarz incident.

I suppose there's drama yet to be played out. If we win Game 6 - which I can't see - it would be an emotional charge to see Stolarz back in net at home for Game 7.

Turning the negative into a positive in this thread: I hope I'm wrong and we win Game 6 and the Panthers come back to Toronto to see Stolarz standing in the opposite crease.

I was wrong about a lot, really believed this iteration was the strongest. Loved the D, our goalies, the coach, system, easy to admit was wrong. Would have been fun to be right though. This sucks.

I thought Holmberg could replace Kampf heading into this year.

That the new grittier guys on D and Forward would be tougher in the playoffs. Nope.

Spoiler alert, we've had tougher D/forwards before, this is not new.

This is the least shocking thing.

Same here fella

What was I wrong about? That the fans would wake up. I don't see what they rally behind next year and they could miss the playoffs. The disaster is way worse than I thought. We way overpaid at TD for a core that is post prime and hasn't done anything. I grossly underestimated the incompetence in this organization. It's reckless and they just wasted 10 years. It's comical now.

I thought Knies would top out as a 20/20 winger given his production in college. I was completely wrong. What a player.

I said multiple times this year that Woll wouldn't play in the playoffs because Stolarz would be the starter. I was wrong.

Everything else about this team went exactly how I've been saying it would on this board since the CBJ series.
