What was the Point of Benching Brayden?

May this precipitate a New York Rangers-esque spiral to the bottom of the Atlantic (divison that is, not ocean).

If I don't show up for a meeting, I'm probably getting fired by my client (trust me, it's happened after missing a meeting by accident before). I don't get paid what he gets paid. It's a pretty simple ask for someone being paid millions of dollars to play a game.

I still do not get the benching. If he already felt bad ; then why pile on?I saw a clip of Bruce Boudreaux talking about failing to bench Ovi and only fine him for missing a meeting. He said it haunts him but it makes me wonder what the player/coach relationship is really like on NHL teams. Are they coaches or baby sitters?
I feel like you are disconnected from real life and job responsibilities.

I am really surprised this is a question. Rules exist for a reason and there are consequences for breaking them.

The point , pun intended, is it was not some random 3rd or 4th liner who got benched. he made an example of a star player and the team proceeded to get smoked in their game without him while in a close playoff race. I know we cannot speculate as to the reasons he missed but perhaps that is what is most intriguing to me not the actual benching.

I also wonder if the team laid an egg to show the 'boss' they did not approve of his tactics?
If a depth player missed the meeting I’m sure they would’ve been scratched too. You think the coach should only scratch the worse players? Where should the line be drawn? Top-6 doesn’t have to come to meetings, but bottom-6 does?

Wow. Not sure why you are making this personal but I have a job with very real responsibilities. We cannot compare pro sports to typical jobs. It is not even close to the same.

No, I think the same rules should apply to all. I was replying to comment that this would not be a post if it happened to a 3rd or 4th liner however, it would be naïve to think that teams do not give star players or perhaps veterans preferential treatment.

I agree that if you break a rule there should be a consequence. I was surprised that Cooper went as far as he did with the consequence given it was their no 1 centre nd the yare in a playoff race.
This is not meant to be a "woke-is-me" post.
