What TV Series Are You Currently Watching Recently Watched

'The Pitt', and the 1st Season is/was excellent! Best medical drama since 'ER' and perhaps even better than 'ER'.

Of course, I will say that I've also been watching 'From', though not so recently, and it is the best thing since 'LOST'. I also just starting watching 'Nine Perfect Strangers', Season 2. 'The Last of Us', Season 2, seemed boring in the first episode, so I haven't really continued with that though I plan to.
Oh, and I've also been watching an Australian series called 'Mystery Road'.

But I'll confirm that it's only been 'The Pitt' that I was truly involved with very recently. Now that I finished Season 1, I'll probably focus my attention on 'Nine Perfect Strangers'.

Watched the first couple episodes of Sirens (Netflix). Limited series so there's only 5 total episodes. So far, so good.

Has anyone watched the new HBO show called Duster?

It seems to be getting good reviews.

I've finished watching Lost. I honestly can't even decide. I think the last time I watched it I liked the ending. Or at least I felt it was fitting. This time around I think I just stopped caring about halfway through, so I'm not as invested in what happened to everyone/thing as I should be.

Finished up S2 of The Rehearsal. It drops off after an incredible first three episodes, but what it all results in is pretty incredible just on a commitment level.

Been in a pretty big series watching mood lately (after previously being a bit dismissive about there being many good things in the medium). Was especially excited because I learned of two acclaimed series by Hirokazu Koreeda (one of those insanely consistent 100% hit rate directors for me). Moved onto "Makanai: Cooking For the Maiko House" next. It's giving me live action Miyazaki vibes. Just wholesome, slice of life attention to details, appreciation of littler things/routine, small town life, no villain/major melodramatic conflicts or anything. Liking it a lot, and makes me realize that this type of media doesn't seem to exist much in the West. I find it more well written and tastefully executed than most of the other popular/acclaimed modern shows I'm aware of, personally.

Also, pretty baffled by how Hirokazu Koreeda seems to write predominantly female characters and is consistently so perfectly in touch with that (I hear Asura's supposed to be even better in that regard).

Nice, that one's been in the queue for a while, been meaning to get to it. I need something to fill the very specific slot of "easy-viewing Japanese content for late night wind-down time" since I've gone through all of Midnight Diner.

It really is scratching an itch that I don't get much from other shows. Midnight Diner kind of flew on my radar as the only other that seems like it might be similar. Worth checking out, I take it?

My A/C is broken and I've had a little trouble sleeping so I've been getting stoned and rewatching The Venture Bros the last two weeks.

There's been a lot of great irreverent cartoon shows over the years, I'm not sure where I'd rate this one on an objective list but definitely among my personal favourites. Don't know how popular it ever got but the Cartoon Network had themselves a nice little run for a while. Some great writing and characters in this, the comic book tie ins are always well worked, and the range of comedic gags they pull off is impressive. It's got a nice mix, 7 or 8 seasons I think.

GO TEAM VENTURE

Yeah I can't speak to the similarities since I haven't started Makanai yet, so, pure speculation at this point. It's almost entirely episodic with a rotating cast of regulars in supporting roles.

Eps run the gamut in terms of resolution type, or skewing more comedic or dramatic, so you never quite know what you're getting each time. And with the diner focus, the show is almost quite literally comfort food.

I'd certainly give a few eps a whirl to see what you think. Tokyo Stories is the Netflix revival. Essentially the same cast (and pilot), but I'd start with the original anyway.
