American Horror Story is a really mixed bag going forward after the first season. Most of the seasons start off pretty well and then go on a tailspin halfway though.
After watching season 2, I'd say your assessment is spot on. What a mess the last half of it was. Are there any seasons you would recommend watching other than season 1?

Honestly, no. The first season is the only one that's solid all the way through. Some other seasons start off good but turn bad. Some start bad and continue to be bad.

Coven and Freak show are really the only two others that I enjoyed almost all off. I like a lot of the actors in those two seasons as well so that helps.

Appreciate it. I'll probably give Coven a try sometime but I'm in no rush to get to it. I did a Google search and it seems most fans like Coven but Asylum seems to be ranked as one of the better seasons too so my expectations won't be very high.

I didn't care for any other seasons after Season 1 of AHS besides Coven. Really enjoyed it. Great cast with a pretty cool storyline and setting. Was nominated for and won a ton of awards. Really loved Cathy Bates' character especially, she was one of the Emmy winners for that season.

Season 1 of SAS Rogue Heroes was added fairly recently to Prime (in the US). Been wanting to watch it since it premiered on Starz/MGM+ a few years back and boy did it not disappoint. It's about the formation of the SAS in Northern Africa in WWII. But the tone is all modern swaggering smart-assery and attitude (soundtracked with plenty of AC/DC and modern rock). Created and written by Steven Knight (Peaky Blinders, a bunch of movies including Locke and Eastern Promises), he loves to give his characters big, florid speeches, but I'm a sucker for stuff like that when it's well done. Jack O'Connell, Alfie Allen, Dominic West and Connor Swindells (who I wasn't familiar with prior to this) are the stars.

It's a blast.

Season 2 starts this month, exclusive to Starz/MGM+ I believe, but will make it's way to Prime eventually. I enjoyed it enough that I'm pondering just getting MGM+ for a month once the next season is done and then cancelling.

That's why I didn't get past one episode.

Recently watched a couple miniseries. First was Under The Banner of Heaven which I thought was excellent. Good true story detective series involving a murder committed by fanatical mormons. Second one was Devs which I thought was decent but certainly didn't love it. Nick Offerman was really good in it though.

I finally started watching Your Honor. I'm about four episodes into season 2 now. 50% of the time I think this is one of the premier prestige series of recent times, and the other 50% of the time I'm frustrated by how stupid and flat some of these characters are.

Tried watching Black Doves, but stopped watching after the 4th episode.

Sooo boring, and could have done without the overly graphic and overdone homoerotica. Especially compared to the soft PG-13/hard PG heterosexual erotica that was portrayed.

Been watching Pantheon recently.

Talk about an incredibly underrated show. Deserves way more viewership, can't believe it was cancelled at one point.

I watched the series premiere of Tim Allen's new show on ABC, 'Shifting Gears'. Typical Allen humor.. He's a widower who has his adult daughter move back home. The daughter is the brunette from '2 Broke Girls'.
Nothing new here, but I liked it. I'll keep watching..

Tim Allen playing the same lame character he's played for 30 years lol. They're hoping Kat Dennings' tits can salvage lame, outdated below average writing.... I don't see how anyone can see anything about this crap show and think it's anything more than a boring, lame cash-grab.

Oh baby. Just wait...that 50% of the time soon becomes 95% of the time!

Yeah, I finished last night. It left me feeling that the show had massive potential but completely went off the rails. The son was probably the dumbest character in the history of TV, and season two just meandered. Plus everything ended on a cliffhanger and it's probably not going to get renewed anyway.

The first two episodes or so started off so well, but the rest of the show basically went nowhere. Cranston was amazing though, as he always is.

Most network TV is designed for advertising revenue, not high art.
Tim Allen is aimed at families and/or Boomers, so what?
You've seen one episode, what did you find uniquely outdated? His character is a Boomer widower with an estranged daughter.. that's a pretty relatable situation in a lot of families.
But if your critique is that you're worn out from the last man standing, why did you watch it? Were you expecting Tim Allen to suddenly create an AMC drama?

Ive found Tim Allen grating and outdated for ages. I didn’t watch all of it ofc, because I didn’t really like it. Just really not a fan of his at all. On or off screen.

Except for The Santa Clause which is basically the only Christmas movie I like lol.

Edit to add: Sorry, I didn’t mean this to be any negative reflection on you for enjoying the show or wanting to watch more. I hope it didn’t come off that way and I apologize it it did. I just reallly don’t like Tim Allen, or Kat Dennings for that matter lol.

The Take from 2009. 4-episode miniseries starring Tom Hardy as an absolute psychopath who gets out of prison and looks to re-take his place in the criminal underworld. It also has Charlotte Riley and Brian Cox.

This was quite compelling. It gets very, very dark at points but I finished it in a day as it was only around 3 hours in total. Hardy really seemed to enjoy fully inhabiting his role.
