I’m cautiously optimistic that the hush hush from management on goaltending is strategic rather than real. Don’t want to throw another weight on their shoulders talking about pursuing one.

There is just no way that this management group can shrug their shoulders and ignore it. These aren’t stupid or disorganized people running the team anymore.

That's my take on this too.
It's more of a poker face, even if it has them looking like Baghdad Bob.

(Or at least I bloody hope it is....)

Lankinen getting $5 mill plus per season and Skinner is due for a raise after next season….he’s going to be asking, actually thinking, he’s worth $7 million+. I wouldn’t offer Skinner $700K right now.

Sorry goalies are voodoo not worth the contracts anymore
for the majority of them for sure. Hopefully the Oil learnt from the last 2 larger $$$ deals they gave to goalies - Jack Cambell and Koskinen, both did not work out well. Look around at the league - Jarry, Grubauer, Lener, Husso, Bobrovsky, Binnington, Mezlikins, Demko... all of these guys would be considered bad contracts, whether it's their play or injuries or a combination, all these guys make too much. It's way too big of a crap shoot to take that kind of risk on a long term, big $$$$ deal. There are very few guys that live up to their deals in goal. Some people were saying Stu might be a 9 million $$ guy per year after this season. He's closer to being in the AHL than to a 9 million per annum deal imo.

Shesterkin will be fine, contract disputes seem to have a bigger impact on goalies given the mental aspect of their game is more finnicky.

Rangers would have been better off just paying him in the summer and not dragging it out, probably bombed their season doing that. Same thing in Boston.

Maybe look at giving T.Jarry a shot with PIT retaining 50%
you know what, for the right deal, I'd probably do it. Jarry is a .910 career goalie, and he's been on a team in Pitt who is not as deep, or talented as the Oilers are.

Jarry @ 50 % retained (2.6875 per)

for...

S. Skinner
St Louis 2025 2nd Round Pick
Jack Campbell's cap hit

can you trade a buy out cap hit? if you can, I'd do this deal in a second.

If you can't trade a buy out cap hit, I'd probably want PItt to add, so something like...

Jarry @ 50 % retained (2.6875 per)
2025 2nd Rd Pick

for...

S. Skinner

to me, it's worth the gamble. I'm not a Stu Hater, but he's had a horrible year, and I don't know how they can trust him in the playoffs as their #1.

I wouldn’t be completely opposed to keeping Skinner as a backup. He’s a local guy, just had his 2nd baby. He can be better than average but he’s just so inconsistent. Lessen his workload, get a legit starter, maybe he can develop as a goalie a bit with less pressure.

Maybe he’s a bit overpaid for a backup but I do like the guy and if the rest of the team does too then he could be worth keeping around, you need 2 goalies anyway.

That depends. If they have enough of a track record they are absolutely worth big money. We paid guys like Koskinen and Campbell based on half a season of good play, in Campbells case we ignored the 2nd half of the season where he crumbled in Toronto.

If a goalie strings together multiple elite seasons they’re probably worth the money. We just don’t see goalies like that here.

I hope you’re right. Throughout my life I just constantly see people basically bullshit their way into positions and then destroy everything lol

Compared to all cup-winning goalies in the past 15 years, Skinner has the worst SV%, GAA and points pct against top-10 teams. His performance against the league's best teams does not inspire confidence.

And... Injured. 💤
