Trade Pickard in a package for an upgrade so "Stoic" (LOL) Stu can get his head examined...again, like he did all of last year.

He needs to be the backup, at absolute most.

Kypreos on air yesterday saying Bowman should be offering up Skinner ++ for Binnington.

Might have been easier before the 4 Nations.

He's newly married and I think his wife is really hung up on being in the St. Louis area so it's probably not in the cards.

Gibson is very similar to Binnington stylistically (reflex based goalie). Probably less scrambly in net if anything.

Literally anything would be great.

Since Jan 15, Skinner has started 10 games and only won 3 of them.

In that span he's had an .862 save percentage, a 3.22 GAA, and a -0.83 GSAx/60. All while averaging only 23.6 shots against per game.

In only three of those games he's had a save percentage above .900. Huh, wonder if that's a coincidence?

Meanwhile in the same span - Picard is .914 sv%, 2.48 GAA, and a 0.29 GSAx/60. Picks has 4 wins - all games he started - and one loss in which he came in after Skinner let in 3 goals on 7 shots.

Oh yeah - Skinner averaged 1.8 rush chances against per game during that span while Picard averaged 2.9 - and Skinner averaged 23.6 shots against while picks averaged 28.8.

So.... Yeah.

Whats troubling with good ol Skinner is his inconsistency.
Even through a game, it can change a lot. Slow starts too.
For me, individual loses or even some bad streaks are okay. What really matters are the bottom line stats. You can measure the quality of the defense pretty well nowadays, and that comes with an expectation on what stats a goalie should deliver.

I do no understand at all why more pundits are not pointing at the goaltending. We are getting goalie numbers typical of bottom feeder defense. I wonder if they are consumed by the eye test, or just that they like the guy

Bowman looks to be employing the hope in one hand and crap in the other (Skinner) and see which one fills up first strategy.
I won't criticize him unless the deadline goes by with no move. It's better that nothing leaks if they exploring things

I wonder if Binnington's performance after all the criticism gives management the idea to stick with Skinner. There were parallels before the last game of the 4 nations

Hate, hate, HATE to say it, but Skinner looks to be tracking like Matt Murray minus the Cup win... The Schwartz factor doesn't help either.

Also, interesting coincidence that another other goalie Schwartz worked extensively with, Tristan Jarry, is now essentially in Jack Campbell territory. Big contract and straight to waivers.

They need a goalie, possibly 2 if Skinner or Packard is involved in the trade.

I feel like the most straight forward move is to waive Pickard now, so you have maximum flexibility at the deadline, while you bring in Gibson or Vajmelka to put at the top of the totem pole.

My guess? They end up with Gibson or Andersen, with my money on Andersen.
I think Anaheim will want to send Gibson out east vs. helping a division rival by giving them a starter for several seasons but they won't have any use for a UFA-to-be Andersen. (CAR can't afford both)

I can also see the Oilers' braintrust being happier with Andersen (even if I would prefer Gibson). Less term, and he gives you someone that can actually push Skinner, whom they (for better or worse) still believe in.

For those of you still defending Stuart Skinner, ask yourself this question:

Does he have a career on any NHL team other than the Oilers?

You know what the answer is.

Cut this guy loose already, he’s doing more to sewer this franchise than Kevin Lowe ever did.
