Player Discussion What should the Canucks do with Miller and Pettersson?

What trade options should the team pursue?

Its a complete lose lose for both players if only one of them is traded.

Its extremely difficult to have 2 high end centers in the NHL especially in their primes. Whoever is left will always be remembered or spoken of as the guy who couldn't get along with the other one for the well being of the team.

Imagine we trade either of them and the team misses the playoffs for 1-2-3 years or its evident to everybody we're missing another C. It will be years of questions, what if's and general exhausting dialogue for the one still around.

Its a total nightmare for both of them tbh.

We still have no idea why Miller took his leave of absence earlier this season. Some of the NHL clubs bidding for his services might know what happened. But I doubt it.

So the sad reality is that 'risk averse' teams are going to try and steal this player for cents on the dollar.

The Canucks will likely only get a meagre return, and will probably end up having to eat a large chunk of the remaining seasons on Miller's contract.

It really is shaping up as a 'lose-lose' proposition.

Necas was the perfect trade with Pettersson imo. Even a 1 for 1 is better than whats floating around out there.

Theres not another player you can get back with that type of ceiling.

Necas is 25 years old and even his new contract you pay him 9-10 million wouldnt be that bad. Necas also will replace Petterssons production moving forward. Yes, he doesnt play defence really, but you can work around it.

He also plays an exciting brand of hockey with his skating and play making ability aka marketable.

Tocchet would snuff all of that out of him. I don't know why management would target this player unless they don't see this coach as a long term fit.

Friedman was making comments when Miller came back about how both players need to "bend" so their differences were clearly part of it.

Don't really want to get into it too much but it's quite something that Miller came back from an unprecedented 10 game leave of absence and clearly didn't try to "bend" at all.

Tage is better and signed

Would prefer him

If the Canucks get a meagre return AND eat part of the contract, Rutherford and Allvin need to be fired. Even Karlsson at 10 million got a decent return

Barring a trade offer like EP+ for Dahlin, I say trade neither. IMO their styles complement each other but that's only if they both play well, obviously. Last year proved that despite their differences, there's a world where the team can win with them.

I just don't want to see the team get rid of an impactful player for peanuts because of a dumb reason like Miller being too hard on EP. I bet if they go on a 8-2 run in 10 games, there will be a lot less trade talk.

Winning can certainly ease the tension but guys like Miller are just exhausting to be around. It gets to the point that the tension doesn't get eased nearly as much even with winning.

The most recent example would be the Jets room a few seasons ago. It happens and at some point you need to deal with it and the "difficult" player will be the one moved. That seems to be Miller.

Its really hard to see 2 captains going at it. the 2 A's. This is a terrible take.

but it's also because we're getting garbage offers for both.
We don't know what we've been offered for them. I really doubt they offered us Necas for Jt Miller.

I think hes playing above his skill level. He wont sustain this. I Just don't see it. If he was that great, Carolina would have kept him.

With the new report coming out that this all restarted with Pettersson showing up to training camp out of shape and Miller calling him out, good on Miller. It seems one of the two wants to win the other is here to collect a paycheck. Pettersson shit season seems to be coming from not putting in the effort in the offseason, aka Kuz. Personally, I have zero issues with players keep others accountable. With us needing a retool on the fly it makes a lot of sense to trade Miller, but given Pettersson attitude and lack of commitment, we probably should move him as well. We can’t have our highest paid player not putting in the effort as this will be incredibly toxic for the lock room. As much as some want to rip on Miller, Pettersson isn’t incident in this and the very poor season he’s having shows that he’s not taking things seriously. He should be called out for that.

Not to mention him needing to announce he was stepping away from social media. Immature for sure.

He casually mentioned in an interview with reporter from a Swedish website.

“I have removed all my social media,” Pettersson admitted. “Which is nice because I’m not walking around wasting time on scrolling the internet. I also get more done at home. It’s very nice not to read and check Instagram. I live my life and try to turn my season around.”

The horror. So immature.

He was dealing with tendinitis in the offseason which affected him. He said in interview in the pre season it was still has lingering pain that won’t go away. Now tell me how can athlete be in top shape dealing with that?

There was a report on tendinitis in the knee from NBA it took athletes one year to recover from and that’s with rest. Which our management didn’t respect.
