I can't see why anyone would expect any higher-end free agent to agree to any contract with a new team that fans would consider a "good contract." The cap is heading nowhere but up over the next three years ($113mm by 2027). This is also the one time in the professional lives of these players that they actually have leverage over their employers. Why would any of them do a fanbase a solid.

The complaints that you have about this year's crop in terms of value are the complaints you will have about next year's crop and the year after. Fans just need to be realistic about the basic nature of free agency and stop simultaneously complaining about the cost of players and the inability of the front office to improve the team.
Hmm... I'm not sure what this totally means.

Be happy with what they do?

I'll be happy when they sign players that contribute to winning/playoffs. They haven't done that in a very long time it's a very worthy complaint. The best value free agent last year was Talbot out of all the money spent. That's horse crap.

I'll be pumped though if Bennett leaves his perfect hockey situation for a little more money here and he morphs this team with our players into a cup contender/playoff appearance. I don't think it'll happen, which is why I'm whining about it on an internet forum to other fans, but if they do sign him I'll be rooting for him to succeed still too. I'm not jaded and weird like that yet.

I'd pay people for sure. Marner is the guy I'd like but after that I'm not looking for a significant overpay for anyone else available. (Just me personally) I think a team's scouting/drafting should be good enough to round out bottom line players, it's the elite players that put up points that are hard to stack up.

Ehlers is a name that intrigues me because I think he is someone that might be able to produce more offensively than he has in WPG. He's good for about 40 regular pts a year and put up 60 pts the past two seasons playing just a little more than what Kasper did last year at just under 16 min per game. At like 7 or 8 mil I'd be interested but I think he might get over 9mil. With that said if he goes to a team where he features closer to 18 min a game, I could see his overall offensive numbers going up.

My dream would be to get Marner (sub 12M, unlikely) and then get Gavrikov 6Mx4. Dump Copp or Compher, Holl, Senko. Resign Kane. Promote Mazur,Danielson,ASP.

Why don't people like Lombardi more than Danielson right now?
(As for like, making the team next year, not as overall pros)

There is zero chance the Wings do that.

I'm somehow always drawn to your posts, like accidents on the freeway though. I cannot look away.

Gavrikov is superior to Orlov. And Gavrikov’s game is steady, smart defensive play. Also, defensemen tend to age better than forwards so I’m not worried about 34 year old Gavrikov making the equivalent of a well paid number 4 defenseman in 5 years.

Bennett will be first line LW or second line C in Detroit. And there’s also no guarantee he’s going to suck 5 years from now. Players take better care of themselves than they used to. I’d bet that if he’s getting real scoring line time instead of a 2/3C role like in Florida his production will be at least as good as this season, if not better on average.
i know garikov is better than orlov , but i dont want to commit 6/7 years to garikov cuz i want that cap space for prospects thatll be ready for long term contracts in a few years . so i sign a lesser player in orlov because its a shorter term contract thatll be off books when i need the cap . mean while over these next several years garikov n bennet arent enough to make wings challengers so hold onto the important cap space and spend a few more years in development stage despite whiny redwing fans . kasper n edvinsson being signed to long term contracts are extremely important as they are top half core roster peices , mean while gary n benny being here would not make redwings contenders . and by the time in 2028 theyre beyond prime and could be improved upon on ufa market . your valuing today n playoffs , im valuing tomorrow and the long term core . thusly i dont want to lock into 7 years of 16 million bucks for these two headed over the hill players . i want to lock into kasper n eddie core peices to go with sidez n rayz 8 years for a decade long payoff run , people are undervaluing how awesome edvinsson n kasper are ! personally i super believe in yzerman draft pix and see a dynasty on the horizon which i dont want wrecked by bad cap management !!!!

I feel like signing Marner should keep us from signing Kane. Unless the plan is to push Kane down the third line to increase our depth scoring.

If we were to sign Marner, I'd imagine Raymond and Kane are both bumped down a line.
X - Larkin - Marner
Cat - Kasper - Raymond
X - X - Kane

Fill in the X's as seen fit.

Yea it makes sense from this perspective, but I would prefer we don't sign both of these players. We all know this team needs to inject some talent that can play in the top 6 and add some toughness. I've loved Kane's time here, but I think he becomes redundant if Marner were to be signed.

I think that depends on who his linemates are on the 3rd line. If they work well together as a unit then Kane becomes the play driver on a scoring 3rd line, in turn helping our scoring depth. Teams would have to match up against our top 6, opening up opportunity for Kane to thrive in that role. Plus it lessens his minutes, keeping him fresher as the season wears on, and for the PP.

This is what happens when you sign a player for less term and less money; you get a worse player.

You get what you pay for. I’d rather we sign a good player now, knowing we have Copp, Chiarot, Compher, Holl, Kane, Gus, and Tank coming off the books. It’s stupid to panic about what you’re going to pay MBN or ASP 3 years from now when we very clearly have space coming soon.

What's the deal with this Tony Deanglo fella?

Lotta controversy and I don't know anything about it, anyone want to just sum it up so I don't have to google articles and read.
