Danielson and Copp ...
I like Nate. But if Detroit just throws him into regular center duty right away, I don't think that's going to maximize his development. His defensive instincts already seem very good, but he needs to bring his offense along. I'd prefer to ease him in at wing for at least half a season, if not a full year.

Would Wings fans consider trading for Girard and if so, would they be interested in sending a futures package to acquire him? Girard is 27 years old and a very solid second pair defenseman, with 2 years left at $5m per.

Colorado would mostly be interested in assets they could use to flip to address other areas of concern.

I kind of feel like its Marner or bust at forward. Simply put these kind of guys rarely come up in UFA. I think its worth taking a shot, but I sort of agree with you on the note of us not being the most compelling team for him. The only thing I think we have is that we are still very close to family for him, but in a much more forgiving market. I feel like the Ehlers, Boesers, and Bennets are players I like but they are going to be to expensive for what they bring. Outside of taking a shot at Marner I'm largely ok going with the kids at forward.

Defense has to be addressed. I don't care if its via UFA and a guy like Gavrikov or via trade, but I don't think is ok to continue failing here. We need someone to pair with Seider or someone good enough to anchor the 2nd pair and allow Ed to go with Seider. If Yzerman had landed a decent top 4 last year I think we make the playoffs. We are never going to be an elite offensive team (without basically not playing D like 2 years ago), but I think our offense has been significantly been held back by how bad our D has been. We need to be able to activate our skilled dmen to get numbers in the O zone.

Marner or bust? That’s crazy talk.

This FA class isn’t great but there will be a few good players available that improve this team by a few points at minimum.

He is going to want more than Seider as a UFA, and I don't really like the idea of him long term. Look at his time missed in his career especially lately. He is 29 and already heavily banged up and according to Panther fans lost quite a step in speed, which is only going to get worse. I would rather spend less on Provorov who is younger and can handle 20-23ish minutes a night.

Ekblad is useful but realistically, Detroit would only want him as top 4 for 2-3 seasons at max because ASP is coming in.

So long term Ekblad is a bad move.

Long term we need another top 4 LEFT defenseman to either play with Seider or with ASP. I don’t think it’s crazy for ASP to play 20+ minutes a night by sometime in 2026, negating the need for a long term contract in that spot. There isn’t anyone in the system that looks like they’re going to be a regular NHL D right now.

While I like Girard, this would make Detroit’s D tiny.

ASP
Johansson
Girard

All very small. And I hate to say it, but teams can rarely win with 3 small defensemen.

Probably the only argument I could buy for starting him in GR this fall. See if the offense takes off, then bring him up and put him on Larkin's wing.

We have no power over real hockey trades here. Some just think they do.

Exactly. He has one season under his belt in the AHL and now he's going to be 3rd line center on the Wings with no other great options? There's a reason teams often bring centers up to play on the wing.

I've beat this dead horse before but people constantly underestimate the gap between being a promising prospect in the AHL and a mediocre jobber in the NHL.

To be clear, I'd love for him to earn a spot on the Wings this season. But you can't go into it counting on him to be one of the centers.

nobodys looking 3 years down the road at what would happen if weve got garikov n bennet owed 8 per for 3 more years when theyre bottom half players ! mean while these two arent capable of improving detroit to cup contender level today , and in 3 years when we need it 29 year old guys just as valuable could be signed ! and in the mean time weve the cap to sign kasper n eddie long term like we did sidez n rayz

JEANNOT

Anton Lundell seems like a pretty good comp for Danielson. A strong two-way center who started with the Panthers at 20, and hasn't looked back. Could be on the way to his 3rd Stanley Cup final in 4 years.

Never played an AHL game. Sink or swim. He swam ... his team had 122 points. Then they traded for Matthew Tkachuk and got better. Lundell never missed a beat. Arguably the best 3rd line center in the league. His linemates currently lead the Panthers in playoff scoring. That line dominated every line the Leafs put out against them.

Danielson wouldn't be the first to do it. Lundell wasn't either.

If you scroll down, there's a report from a board member on the Griffins from a guy who saw every game.

He says Danielson is future top 6 center, Selke candidate. Will begin next season in Detroit and is part of the core. I guess he's wrong too.

Sound a little like Lundell.

I think he could do it. Can always ease him into first half of the season but I think towards the end he’ll be the 3c

He almost made the roster last season so I’m expecting another Kasper type transition where he’ll be better In the nhl with better players surrounding him (at least that’s what I’m counting on)

Either way the youth movement is here. We waited all this time to stockpile prospects and the time has come. Either start moving guys or playing them cause within 2 seasons they’res going to be a serious uptick in kids on the roster

My dream off-season moves would be to sign Marner and trade for Pelech.

Danielson-Larkin-Raymond
Debrincat-Kasper-Marner
Compher-Copp-Kane
Mazur-Rasmussen-Söderblom

Pelech-Seider
Edvinsson-Johansson
Chiarot-ASP

Isles probably wanna do a quick re-tool, and with Schaefer and Romanov on the left-side, Pelech will become replaceable.

If they want to compete next year, they may be inclined to take Tarasenko. So ideally Pelech costs Tarasenko and some combinations of picks.

Sign Marner for 13x7.

Pelech will be a huge improvement for the PK and Marner should be huge for 5on5 scoring.

Only thing I know about Girard is he's tiny and that him and DeBrincat have gotten in a scrap.

I mean, of late it seems a lot of kids have an easier time scoring in the NHL than AHL. Provided of course they're deployed in scoring roles... edit - to add, I'm not talking about just the Wings. The AHL is a hard team to score in because it almost has to be solo efforts most of the time.

Should we trade Chiarot, probably will be good for team like Toronto?

In exchange for who? Because if the goal is just to get rid of Chiarot then the team just got worse.

Chiarot has 2 more years left on his deal. He shouldn't be moved unless it's part of a package to bring in someone that significantly improves the team.

Holl is the real problem, but I don't know what can be done about that other than waive him. Like I said before, I hope in the end of season meeting Yzerman told Holl he better come to camp in the best shape of his life and focused on being a great Dman, because if he continues to play the way he has he'll be riding the bus in Grand Rapids by Thanksgiving and will probably never play in the NHL again.
