I think Ekblad is going to age poorly. Doesn't help our PK either. Just seems totally unnecessary IMO.
Don't understand this.

He's the defensive leader on the Stanley Cup champs and kills virtually every penalty. He's not particularly fast afoot, but he's always in position Very, very good defensively. Boxes out the front of the net really well ... very strong. He's just not flashy.

Why would anyone want Max Pacioretty? Did you watch any of the series or just look at the box scores? Man, the Wings don't need another old useless twat.

He was yanked from the 2nd line every game of the series, is old and done.

Gustav Forsling and Seth Jones play the most minutes short handed. Ekblad is going to be a bad contract, the Panthers get this and brought in Jones with the Blackhawks eating a big old plate of s**t on his cap number in order to replace Ekblad. Of course Chicago fans badmouth Jones every chance they get because it's an awful franchise and fan base. I'm happy he finally gets to play for a quality franchise.

Poison pill their cap. We should offer sheet him 9.2M so the compensation is 1,2,3rd round picks then try to sign Marner. We will get one of the two lol
Ummm caps going up anyways don’t think 9 mill will do anything to them really lol and marner is gone anyways from Toronto. They bring him back and the fans will burn down the arena lol

and I’m not paying marner 13+ to bring his loser mentality 😂 think he’s going to Vegas since they have no problem deleting players from they’re rosters

Can we stop with the collection of ScUM players? Larkin, Copp, Compher, and Motte are routinely cited as the most disappointing players on the team relative to the roles they are expected to perform.
Totally agree. Can you imagine if we added sCuM players like the Hughes brothers, Werenski, Connor Fantilli, Johnson, Berniers, etc.? Our team would be so disappointing.

I mean, he would almost certainly help the PK, at least right off the bat. But @Run the Jewels' worries about aging poorly are justified IMO. Ekblad's going to want a long term contract as this is likely his last opportunity to really cash in at 29 years old. And if he's already noticeably slowed down, it might not look pretty when he hits 33-35 and beyond. Not saying that'll happen for sure, but it's something to be concerned about. Players don't get faster into their 30s, there's going to be a consistent decline at some point. And loss of speed can be one of the most conclusive career-enders (at least as far as high-level play goes) because once it dips below a certain baseline, then the player just becomes a pylon out there regardless of their other abilities. So Ekblad may be good enough in other ways to compensate for his lack of speed right now, but if he gets even slower? At some point his other qualities will no longer compensate adequately. We don't want an albatross contract when we're in our prime contention window in a few years.

I'd prefer Gavrikov or Provorov, or even a trade for a top4 dman if there's a good deal to be made out there. If those other players fall through and Ekblad is the best option, I'm ok with signing him but only if the deal makes sense. If there's a bidding war for him, I'd prefer another team take on the risk. With Seider and ASP, our top 4 D will be set for a while as soon as the latter is up to speed. Would prefer to use salary cap and/or trade capital to bolster the left side.

One of these things is not like the other.

Aside from the blowback about his comments this past post season press conference, in his career Larkin has exceeded expectations in every single way.

Compher either had a nagging injury all season or looked at his contract term and decided he could f*** around for a few seasons. Copp is mostly unremarkable but effective. Though he needs to not do the weird backhand elbow to the head grab that tore his shoulder.

Ekblad has more SH/G then Jones, in the playoffs. Not by much. They generally run the 3, but Ekblad/Forsling is the top pair.

Ekblad also on the 2nd PP unit.

I'm fine with an Ekblad signing.

Ekblad also has recent seasons of 35, 51 and 56 games played. He's not going to age well.

Very true and something I didn't touch on. There's going to be a time in any player's career when they slow down. But when it comes to players with a history of bad leg injuries, that risk is much higher. I don't personally see a good fit with Ekblad. The potential risk in terms of performance and contract outweigh the potential rewards IMO. I imagine there will be several teams ready and willing to make that mistake, so I doubt the Wings would be able to sign him at something I would find palatable. I'd be comfortable with 5 years at $6M AAV, but he's almost certainly going to get more than that in both term and dollars.

My point with Larkin is not that he hasn't exceeded expectations relative to his draft position, but rather that he is the 1C but not a remarkable 1C. Same with all of those I listed, they're fine and that's it. The Wings would be suited to upgrade any or all of them for the roles they occupy.
