Who is replacing them?
Martin Fehervary will take one of the spots, likely on the second pair. He’s one of their better prospects who was probably ready for full time NHL duty last year but got caught in a numbers game. As for Chara’s spot, Michal Kempny is fully healthy (reportedly) and would have the inside track if he can still play, or they could move Trevor van Riemsdyk to the left side, or they could still make a move to fill the 3LD spot. Alex Alexeyev (1st round pick in 2018) is another option but he’s probably a year away from being an NHL regular.

I understand they score a lot and just had a Norris winner, but if they make the playoffs itll be by squeaking in a wild card spot. Their roster lacks any sort of identity outside scoring, and they definitely didnt upgrade the roster this offseason

Theyll be much better in 2-3 years.. but I have a sneaking suspicion Drury will put an end to that and sign away any cap space they were working with, all while letting good roster guys go (let Buchnevich go but I bet he signs Zibanejad to a terrible deal, has to pay Fox 9-10m)

They are my pick to surprise this season. They were already a very good team in many ways last season. They have a great forward group, the reigning Norris winner, another good young dman in Miller, one of the most promising young goalies in the league and Panarin. If Lafreniere or Kaako break out you are looking at a top 2 team in the division.
