Yup, there are probably lots of reasonable answers (accordiing to you)...And that is what matter most when looked at and summed up after responses.

For me: We are too soft all arround: and ya ya some fans tend to think that the "forward motion thinking and stacking those chips will work,...eventually)

WRONGO!

Our team can only create a momentem swing (Which is totally important) But,...we can only create one when we score.

There are way more aspects to the game, and when we get pinned in our end and no one hits,..or they just do a drive by,.,..it shows our weakness, and proves one of our weaknesses. The opposition shows no fear against us. Can you blame them? Nom,,it's our lack of effort and guts that are to blame and it carries on and throughout our line-up.

Yup we need to add gritty players that cover up our finesse players that want no part of of playing griity!

We need a shake up and new direction unfortunatley. (lets not blame it on goalies,...the players up front give too much white ice because "WE THE GREATEST POND HOCKEY TEAM THAT COULD PLAY WITHOUT BOARDS"

Teams around us that are up-coming have added tons of grit so,..there is also that.

IT is time to give up 1 of our top 4. Marner still makes so ego headed passes, Morgan does too and looks more like a forward.

WE are desperate,..I am desperate. Dubas should be desperate ( and has never made a ballsy big trade)

Guts before glory is all I'm asking. GLG!

throw out some ideas, likes or dislikes, remedies....bandaids..ect...

When your looking in your skates for a puck or skating to a loose puck in the corner, there is more urgency when your unsure if an opposing player might crush you. How did a team with as many physical players as the Islanders have so much playoff success. I'd argue that Babs teams with Komarov and Martin had more success vs Washington as Keefes without them and more talent.

We have a GM trying to reinvent the wheel. Our most important players do drive by stick lifts.

Who knows... Maybe its the Coach... Maybe its the leadership of the players, maybe it's our players just aren't that good.... Maybe it's stupid cap management.

Aren't going go find out by not changing something.

The entire philosophical underpinning of the Shanaplan is looking pretty shabby these days.

Traditionally, teams win games by outshooting, outscoring, out hitting, out defending and out goaltending the opposition. With some overlap between those categories and other nuances that glue it all together into a coherent team game.

Dubas and Shanahan have basically put all of our eggs into the first two baskets and conceded everything else to the opposition, going cheap on everything that isn't Big 4. And they don't even do a good job protecting and enhancing the Big 4. If they're skill guys who are poor defensively, why not build a protective supporting cast around them vs heavier teams and have defensive redundancy and reliable goaltending to back up them? AKA build a normal supporting cast.

Lack killer instinct? Why not bring previous cup champions to help instead of just bringing in old players indiscriminately? Thornton, Foligno, Spezza, Simmonds, Giordano have never been effective playoff performers or cup winners. They're just old. The only cup winners they managed to bring in were Muzzin, Bogosian and Clifford twice, and NAK. That's just not cutting it.

Goalies are voodoo? How about the fact that we paid the same 3rd round pick in draft capital to get 4 games out of David Rittich as Detroit did to secure Ville Husso's rights?

The slow burn incompetence that took an up and coming team to a nothing special middle of the pack team with so many holes, it's just sickening.

I've been pissed off for the pass 56 years!
I've seen every imaginable situation and as to why the team doesn't meet expectations. It all comes down to having the proper management in place. Look at the Jay's and Raptors, both expansion teams and both have won championship's, and the Leafs haven't done anything since 67. I have no more piss@

Hate to say it but there isn't a lot i like about the team.
I guess if i had to choose just 1 thing it would be that we're so soft. Unfortunately that won't change under current management and adding a physical player or 2 wouldn't be enough. The team is built to be a possession high tempo team but our tempo is often less than that of our opponent.
1 other thing that really irks me is that for a soft bunch we take so many minor penalties. The bulk of which are pathetic little stick infractions that rarely prevent a goal or prime scoring opportunity.

In the past JFJ, Burke and Nonis eras, the Leafs were a team without enough elite players. In the Dubas era, we're elite players without a team behind them.

We don't have an identity.

Not tough enough. Not enough offensive depth. We're not a really fast team either. Defensively we are soft. Our top players can be neutralized pretty easily by playing them tough and taking away their space as they aren't particularly fast or shifty enough to make room for themselves.

Every team has weaknesses, so it's all a matter of degree...

* Inconsistent when it comes to playing with physical intensity and high competitiveness

* Poor starts to games

* Perennially unresolved goaltending issues

* Marner; his contract, attitude, agent, and dad

* Perennially weak and revolving door bottom six

* Weak defensive depth given Muzzin's injury (which was predictable and foreseeable, something that should have been planned for), Sandin's slow / stagnant development / regression, and Holl being Holl

* Refusing to make lineup adjustments, particularly in terms of separating the seemingly conjoined pair of Matthews and Marner

No no, we have a very strong identity, just no one likes it.

There are many things and they all trace back to 2 things
1- the structure and make up is flawed
2- the high dollar core far to many times fail to live up to their pay cheques and very rarely rise to the occasion and win us big games.

it’s going to be hard to fix

Don't forget Marleau, the definition of a loser.

The answer probably isn't palatable to most fans.

You have weed out the attitudes.

Anyone remember when the talk about drafting Nylander centered around his dad's reputation?
Kind of ironic now with the history we're witnessing.

You are right and it’s going to be painful but necessary.

The thing that pisses me off the most about this season's team is their seemingly continued inability to bring a passionate effort consistently.

I know they want to win, but the fact they don't know how to turn that into anything more than what we have seen to date is baffling, concerning and will probably be the undoing of this core.

Shannaplan is based on the Red Wings teams he played on, the difference is those teams had a soul, they had a conscience, this team has nothing of that.

What pisses me off the most...

The me, me, me, attitude of our supposed best players. They took too much money from our cap without giving the team the maximum term. They only thought about their future bank balances without considering whether our Leafs could win a Stanley Cup!!!

Now, there is not enough cap money room to surround our core players with decent support players.

Even Taveras agreed to too much money. He should have done our Leafs a solid favor and signed with the Sharks for $13M!

Matthews, Marner, and even Nylander, are overpaid and under performing babies! Taveras tries hard, but is well overpaid as well for what he is bringing. For what he is paid, 40-50 goals per season should be expected.

Their peers around the league know this, and go about proving this as best they can. They have success too frequently, especially in the playoffs.

JMHO!

For me, the players are all so hateable. They’re soft, consistently inconsistent, never start on time, don’t purposefully forecheck, play Engvall, and their core are ballerinas more interested in fancy skating on the edges than driving offence and being tough to play against.

There’s actually not a single player on this team I can definitively say I like, including Matthews, and it’s kind of a drag to only cheer for the crest while hating the entire team of players. I like Simmonds and Gio the best if I had to pick but it sucks they’re not the players of a few years ago.

I miss Hyman, and the days of Tucker, Roberts, Yushkevich. I’m holding out hope for Knies because he’s unlike anything we have but I’m sure that once he gets to the team and is around this core of babies that he’ll become soft and have a lack of dedication and winning mentality too.
