I know I've seen graphs before, but I can't be bothered to look one up right now (just about to go to bed).

The further away from Montreal and Quebec City you get, the more likely the people are to be exclusively francophone. Once you're in the Quebec boonies, good luck finding anyone who speaks English. IIRC.

I'm not going to pull out graphs, or give any number. I'll just go based on my experience, having lived in both Quebec City and Montreal.

In Montreal, pretty much everyone can speak at least basic English. The percentage of bilingual people is obviously much higher than anywhere else in the province. The percentage of strictly English speaking people is also quite high compared to other regions.

In Quebec City (and I'd say it's relatively similar in smaller municipalities), the percentage of bilingual people is going up. Everyone that was born in the 70s-80s, I'd say, will understand English and be able to have a short conversation, at the very least. Those born in the 90s and the millenials won't really have any trouble holding a longer conversation in English, because English is mandatory starting in elementary school, although some might have troubles with pronunciation and with finding certain words. Lots of older people, though, might not know English very well, besides certain common words. I know plenty of people who wouldn't be able to hold even a short and simple conversation in English in my extended family, for instance.

Have covered quite a bit of Quebec riding a motorcycle. Never have I come across someone who can't speak English reasonably well. Would be shocked if the number wasn't higher than 1/3.

I've only had real issues in places in the middle of nowhere such as Baie Comeau

As someone that grew up about an hour outside of Montreal I can tell you that number of Quebecers that can speak English is a lot bigger than the number of Quebecers that will speak English.
