I believe Evander Kane was traded for a conditional 1st last year, so I believe a 1st is the most you can expect. Will they even want to trade him if they keep playing this well? Might as well let him walk for free if you can make the playoffs.
Sharks Acquire Evander Kane from Sabres
More than just a 1st.
Trade summary: Acquired from Buffalo for conditional 2019 1st, 2020 4th, Daniel O'Reagan. (Condition: 1st if Sharks re-sign or win Stanley Cup; slips a year if don't make playoffs; 2nd otherwise. If Sharks keep 2020 4th, becomes 2021 3rd.)
As they have re-signed Kane, it'll be a first. Which year will depend on making playoffs.
More than that, Sabres GM indicated this was the best offer he'd received. Kane was perceived to be a lockerroom cancer. But has flourished in San Jose.
