Speculation: What is Vegas doing with Vadim Shipachyov?

Even if a team has injuries to defenders, they're not going to view Hunt, Sbisa and Reinhart as the answer. Just waive one of them and make room for the guy. This is just bizarre.

Edler plays for Vegas?

The general thought here is that Vegas is holding these defensemen in the nhl waiting for a team to sustain an injury and trade an asset for a defenseman to replace an injured guy, then GMGM saves face of not losing an asset on waivers, and can proceed to call up Ship.

If this theory is true, then anytime any team loses a defenseman to injury, that’s an opportunity for Vegas to actually find a team willing to trade for one of their excess of defensemen and, in so doing, solve this Ship problem.

Exactly. It's not like the excess defensemen McPhee has are ones who'll return anything of value. He's essentially holding onto defensemen who'd be waiver fodder for most teams at the cost of Shipachyov.

Caps just lost Niskanen long term. We'll take Schmidt back. :naughty:

So Haula hurt, and Ship up. They're still going with a 12F/9D roster configeration which is still a [problem IMO. Not as big of one as having your 1C in the minors but they better hope the next injury they have can be resolved by having enough time to call someone up from the AHL.

Schmidt for Shipachyov, Barber, 3rd

GMGM gets his 1C and to save face, caps get their Niskanen replacement.

McPhee might be dumb enough to trade one of his players for one of his other players. Caps accept.

Engelland can play forward if needed.
