Best part for Optimism is summed up as our Goalies can still be better and we have more forward/D depth coming in with Perron and Zub.

Teams in a position to not choke this November!

I'm not sure with this team anymore. The way we played against Boston was amazing. However, the way we played against Buffalo was scary. They talk about consistency for a reason and it certainly is an issue.

Dudes literally don't show up on nights. It's really sad how guys are like MIA then other days play lights out. November is like making the playoffs for the Senators. If they play this month right? They're set up for the year. They dropped the ball now and they don't make it in April.

This is a schizophrenic team. I'm never sure which team is going to show up. Some consistency. Certainly would be nice and if this team has what it takes it needs to go on a good run to build its confidence up. These stretches of three four games is not enough to build their confidence. This team has a fragile psychology from over the years of losing. They need a good run and learn how to play like that every night and get a swagger. I feel like a broken record saying the same thing year after year. Expecting a different result. It's time for this team to show up or shut up.

There seems to be always injuries and excuses and all kinds of stuff. Those mean very little to me. Every team that makes the playoffs goes through injuries all the time. This is the NHL injuries are just part of it. What isn't part of it is excuses. Dreams. The only thing that people remember is that you didn't make the playoffs. They don't care what you do in the regular season, except if you're losing. Playoffs are all that matter and these guys need to get there. It's not like you can just Coast through the season and turn it up in the playoffs. This team will never play well in the playoffs if they can't learn to elevate their game on a consistent basis. We all know the playoffs are a seven game series and if you play as schizophrenic as we do, you get bounced in the first round.

Our fans are just as bad lol win a few games and it's all roses and lose a few games and it's all doom and gloom lol maybe more consistency from our fan base will go a long way.

Jk.

How about the team plays consistently and 2 things happen first:

1. we get good goaltending for the first time 8 years, fans know any hockey team is going nowhere with their goalies collapsing, disappearing and letting in softies which has been the case for half the games here in Ottawa this season.

2. How about all 20 skaters for the Sens show up and play 5 full games in a row, give me 300 minutes of consistent hockey from everyone who has a jersey on

I know people like to focus on our consistency and whether we show up or not. But it's also important to remember that there's another team on the ice. We showed up yesterday, but the Leafs didn't. The Leafs are more capable than what we saw yesterday. If they show up, it's a much closer game (which we probably still win).

Every team goes through these bad games.

The thing that hurts for us right now, is the fact that we lost a couple games we should have won (Vegas, NYR), and we haven't won any games we didn't deserve to win yet. I expect this will all even itself out over the season.

Either way, things are looking very good, even with our middling record.

For all the whining we saw on the board about us missing our 3rd best D and 3C, the Leafs were missing their best player, who also happens to be one of the 3 or 4 best players in the world. 9 years in the league and he's never been on pace for less than 40 goals. Guys like that change the complexion of a game entirely. Just to put his goalscoring pace into context, at his current pace and playing the same number of games as Ovechkin, he'd have 934 goals, compared to Ovechkin's 863. Who knows if he can keep that pace but it's honestly no stretch to imagine he'll be top 10 all-time in goals when it's all said and done.

Anyway, that was a very complete effort on our part and a pretty shit effort on Toronto's part. It happens. Glad we were the ones in control and getting the 2pts.

Ya, I think those predicting TO's downfall are out to lunch. They'll make the playoffs like they always do, they'll just proceed to choke like they always do too. They have a decent goalie tandem now to help them stay afloat. I like Stolarz, but I don't think he's quite as good as his stats are right now.

It's just nice that we're taking advantage of other teams not having optimal line ups. Before last night, TML played 3 games without AM34 and won each of them. Their big paid guys like Marner and Nylander have showed up and dominated in each of those wins. Even Tavares has played worth his cap hit.

It's refreshing to get a win when the other team isn't at 100%.

What's interesting is the Leafs actually have a better record when Matthews is out of the lineup, and their PP since he went down had been lightning hot,

While nobody is going to argue the Leafs are a better roster without Matthews, I think it's important to understand that they are still a very good team without him so a definitive win where we outplay them for 60 mins and get the shutout is still an impressive win.

I tend to agree, but the list posted is purely an analytic driven prediction model, it's based on expected goals, and strength of schedule. It's a small sample though, so I expect the final outcome to be fairly different when it's all said and done.

Sens are a very good team.

First time there is deserved optimism since 2016-17.

They are built correctly, they have the pieces that fit the team.

No talented spare parts, just a team that’s more than the sum of its parts.

They have a #1D in Sanderson, #1C in Stu, #1G in Ullmark, a top line power forward in Brady, a star D on the 2nd pair in Chabot, two pair completing 20 minute defensive D, very good secondary scoring with Norris/Batherson/Giroux, and a very strong 3rd line of guys who play complete games.

This is a very strong team. This is the first time since the ECF run ended I thought the Sens had a playoff team. I had 0 optimism heading into any of the previous 7 seasons.

This team can make noise. They have everything they need.

I'll say there's a chance, it'll just be one of those things I need to actually happen before I can believe it. Seems like they always turn it on when they need to, in the regular season.

We still have Perron to add back into the lineup, and I think Ostapchuk had an excellent showing in his callup.

I do still think our callup depth has some wholes, we don't really have a scoring forward we can callup, and not much to speak of on D (Sebrango and Guenette I guess), so health will be important.

They need to approach it one game at a time. As I've mentioned before, I have no expectations; I simply want them to play structured hockey and give themselves a chance to win each night. The talent exists; they just have to have faith in themselves and their teammates. It's a work in progress; they're beginning to shed the losing mentality and are learning what it takes to consistently win.
