Speculation: What is the most the Canucks could fetch from NYR if they traded JT Miller back to NYR

With every deal being a cap deal now, at best they could probably do something like Trochek, Jones (or Robertson) and a pick. Likely a 1st. If any further dollars have to move, it’ll be a cap casualty type player.

JT is a difference maker still. He can change the tempo of a game. Even in the playoffs.

Value wise, it would have to be something like that, unless it becomes a deal for Zibanejad in a change of scenery type thing. Both with the big contracts, both have their own issues, but It’s hard to say who lasts longer. JT loses his legs, he’s in more trouble than Zibanejad, who’s game can get away with slowing down more. Whoever adds, it wouldn’t be much at all though.

If it’s a “get rid of JT” type trade and they take Trouba let’s say, to get through the money aspect of things, the Rangers will likely have to add two Grade A pieces. Even though Trouba might really solidify the Canucks blue line, the Rangers would still be adding nice, young value.

Unfortunately these days, once we start trading $7+ million deals, pure value trades rarely happen anymore. Which completely screws any fans thinking they’ll try the trade on their video game first, trying to determine the value.
Imagine thinking there’s a possibility Vancouver would be adding in Miller for Zibanejad swap.

Zib straight up. Come on Nucks fans, you know you want to! :naughty:
I haven't been following the Rangers, is he pretty much having the same "slow" start that Petey had in Vancouver, hence the moves to dump him? 18 points in 24 games still isn't anything to scoff at, and him and a D-man for Miller+ would be something I'd probably do, unless there's something underlying that's wrong with Mika.

Rangers in a win now mode, would most likely be giving up prospects and picks to acquire MIller. I don't think they want to move Alexis Lafrenière which is extremely reasonable for them to say not we don't want to move him.

they do however want to get rid of cap room to fit in Miller so maybe they will have to dump contract.

I am guessing they will offer Chytil 1st round pick another young guy, and another recently drafted prospect as an opening offer for JT MIller.

How bad has Zibanejad been? To make salary work I would possibly do Miller for Zibanejad(35% retained) & Schneider + a pick. If Rangers go for this then i assume Zib has been terrible and pull that offer off the table

Zibanejad/Trocheck & a young Dman like Schneider/Miller would have to be the base I'd think.

The Canucks can't just lose a top 6 C without a replacement, we are trying to contend.

Miller is too important, I don't think I'd do it. And NYR wouldn't want to pay the haul it would take I don't think.

Zibanejad + Kakko for Miller and a 1st? Or Miller + 2nd? dno
Kakko is almost worthless, Zibanejad is closer to a salary dump than he is to someone like Miller, and the Canucks ADD a first? Lmfao

Trade Miller and you pretty much tell your fans that you're not contending this year. A bad message to send.
I mean half that fanbase is dumb enough to think Pettersson is a god, so it wouldn't be a hard sell if they spin it like JT hurt poor EP's feelings

I’d rather not, this team even swapping Zibanejad for Miller hypothetically is still not good enough to win anything. Not to mention it would cost more than that and Vancouver probably wouldn’t want Mika so forget it.
Swapping an overpaid 2C for a top 5-10 C in the league is a massive upgrade. Miller almost willed the Canucks to the WCF with a 3rd string goalie. If Shesty pulls his head outta his ass, those two would be scary come playoff time. Miller is instantly the Rags best skater

I love the player JT has developed into, but pump the brakes saying this is one of the best contracts in the league. He’s shortly turning 32.

For the record, I think JT would require a substantial return but this is an absurd trade package.
If you can get a top 10 player in the league for $8m, it's a great f***ing contract. If schmucks like Panarin, Pettersson, Nylander are getting $10m+, Miller would too even at his age

No, you are trading Miller for Zibanejad, and getting Kakko too? In my hypothetical trade.

We don't want Zibanejad. While he's far from a bad player, his value isn't much of anything given his age and lackluster season. Kakko is basically your equivalent to Hoglander.

Neither are remotely valuable pieces in a trade for JT. This conversation starts, and very likely ends, with Schneider or Miller involved. We have zero reason to entertain anything else.

Trade Miller and you pretty much tell your fans that you're not contending this year. A bad message to send.

Realistically, the only way we'd trade him is if he wanted out. At that point, he's telling the fans he doesn't want to be here.

In any other scenario, we wouldn't.

Can we stop with JTM trade threads unless we get an update on an indefinite leave of absence (to be posted in OP)? You don't see anyone posting Carter Hart trade threads. Same situation (player is unavailable to play in the NHL). Different circumstances (Obviously mystery absence and sexual assault trial and different leagues. I should not have to type that). Actually sorry, Hart will have a trial date so there is a definite time line in his case.

Miller has a no movement clause. That changes everything as the Rangers only have to outbid whichever teams Miller is willing to go to. If this trade happens the return will be underwhelming like pretty much any deal involving a disgruntled player with a NMC. If he's not disgruntled than a trade makes no sense as he's Vancouver's best all-around player on a team that thinks it can win something.

And Canucks would be insane to trade Miller for anything but a big overpayment. These teams really don’t make good trading partners when it comes to Miller
excatly NO deal. unless miller specifically says he "wants out" and vancouver has no choice but to create a bidding war to whoever offers the best package. doesnt have to be the rangers necessarily.
arent the rangers on the wrong side of 30 for most of their players and looking to rebuild?

Didn't this dude just quit on his team?
Weird way to frame that, we really have no clue why he took a leave of absence and management has gone to great pains to keep it that way our of respect to Miller.

Usually in these cases it's mental health related, or difficult family issues like loss or health issues with a loved one.

Everything I've read seemed to indicate that it was simply due to burn out, which would be pretty concerning to me if I was interested in trading for the player. If it's some bigger issue, different story obviously

Just so much speculation, if he said he wants out, the Canucks don’t have to do anything, he signed for an amazing contract for the next seven years.

Nobody’s gonna give away that kind of money.

But again, it’s mute, I don’t think that’s what’s going on
