I think it’s fair to expect growing pains with any young team but they clearly have the talent to continue developing and take the next step.

Goaltending is still an issue and I don't think they'll be able to retain both of Debrincat and Chychrun unless they massively overpay, which will set them back in their development plans.
Agreed.

The young team without their 1c for the entire year, who have missed key dmen for long stretches, have been missing their top two goalies for some time now... won't be able to make up for the 7 points they're currently missing.

Pretty realistic take.

Not saying they're a foregone conclusion but...

I've been hearing the sens are a playoff team for long enough to understand that a good team on paper =/= playoff team

Next season.

Half the teams in the League make the playoffs. It's not like it's a nearly insurmountable accomplishment.

Now, 'Cup contender is a different story. Some teams, like the Leafs, languish as potentially playoff capable but 'Cup pretenders for decades.

the goaltending issue noted seems realistic despite your scoff. recently healed forsberg and rookies minding the net seems like a good reason to be concerned about their ability to make the playoffs next season in the eastern conference.

Both Buffalo and Ottawa should make the PO's next year, the question is which 2 teams they will replace.
This years likely PO teams (9 teams in the race right now so 3 would have to miss next year)

Boston
Toronto
Carolina
Tampa Bay
NY Rangers
NJ Devils
(2 of these next 3)
Pittsburg
NY Islanders
Florida

Pittsburgh, Tampa Bay, and Carolina maybe? (I Don't see Florida being as bad next year).

If they get an experienced coach this summer, I think there's a Small to decent chance next year of sliding in the 7th or 8th spot, and i feel pretty confident in the 24-25 season. If they keep DJ, I would reduce those possibilities.

Will they add defense or goalie?
They already added a defense. Chabot, Sanderson, Zub and Chychrun is a solid top 4. A bigger issue is bottom 6 depth right now, but getting Norris back should help that. Forsberg should also be good enough in net. They could add a veteran backup/tandem.

The Sens don't need major changes. The team is in place. They just need fewer injuries and for the rookies to grow. And maybe a new coach.

They've been without Norris for the majority of this season. Barring injuries to key players, I think they should make it next year with the growth of the young core.

A healthy Norris and we would have made it in this year.

Both goalies out, Norris out entire season and we still have ever slight chance with 10 games left? Yea, def next year with the natural growth of some of our players.

Ottawa is icing the 3rd youngest roster in the league, btw.

Your opinion is worthless. Predictable negative trash take. They're 5 points out right now. A season where they haven't had their number 1 center for the entire thing. Both goalies have been hurt at the same time or one of them at the minimum the entire season. They have had one of their top 3 d men out all season and only got chychrun at the TDL. The entire core group outside of Giroux is 25 and under. Best two players are on their ELC's. They have one of the worst structural coach's in the league who is going to be replaced. In the last week they have outshot Boston, Toronto, Colorado and Tampa. Try harder or be better.

Next year they could make it.

They’re 5 points out of a playoff spot right now, absolutely decimated by goalie injuries. They’ve also lost Norris, a top 6 C who had 35 goals last year, for the entire year.

DJ Smith will also (hopefully) be gone once new ownership takes over.

Really depends on what they actually do this off-season. Could be next season, might be the season after. Any longer and you're running into issues coming back up.

Sens basically need to get a goalie this off-season and another d. They need to be super aggressive imo.
