What is that spot on Messier's head?

Being serious here. Hope it's nothing cancerous or anything of that nature, but the past couple of years there this rather large dark spot on the top/side of Messier's head and I was just wondering if his health is OK. He was my idol growing up and still is. I know he's pretty fanatical about his health too.

Liver spot? Given his fame and fortune I'm sure he has access to phenomenal doctors, and if it was anything serious it would have been addressed.
