I'm going with a preseason intensity.

Nobody wants to get hurt in a relatively nothing tournament, and nobody is going to go out there trying to injure anyone throwing hits while teams are about to start playoff pushes.

So while I expect some bumping, I don't expect anything even close to a regular season game. It's basically a 2 week long glorified all-star weekend.

players are prideful especially wearing their national jersey. I expect maybe not playoff level but more than a normal regular season game.
Came here to say something like this.

Also intensity doesn't equal hits but my guess some people are going to equate the 2.

voted playoff game although if there was a "in between regular season and playoff game that would be the preferred choice.

They’re all competitors and they’re all the best of the best. I fully expect it to end up being playoff level.

It'll vary. If they're getting spanked or winning big, expect preseason levels of excitement. If it's a close game expect regular season game. Championship game will be like an intense regular season game but not playoff game.

Low level/intensity regular season game

They're all professional players so there will be a desire to win plus various levels of pride in wearing their country's jersey. However they make their money being stars in the NHL & aren't going to want to jeopardize that for a relatively unimportant tournament. Add in that when they get back the push to the playoffs will really begin. So the effort won't be near 100% most of the time.

When everything gets filtered down, the championship game will likely be that of a playoff intensity as it's the final game.

it would be if they actually brought the best players. usually it’s bunch of guys who miss the playoffs and even then people don’t want to go to the worlds

So much for prideful wearing their national jersey, then?

I guess I got my point across.

not quite. whether they go is one thing. but if they wear they jersey they aren’t going to half ass it out there

Right... But good players regularly go to the Worlds, too...

I guess what I'm getting at is, it's a bad impersonation of the Olympics. And we already have players opting out of it (Pietrangelo) in year one. Probably more to follow suit in the coming years.

They will player with great intensity. The players love the best-on-best environment.

The big difference from the NHL playoffs is that in the playoffs teams develop a real game-plan and style over time. A tournament like this doesn't completely allow that due to lack of time, etc.

But they'll be trying very hard.

It’s a gimmick tournament for sure, but i still think it’ll be amazing hockey and best we’ve had since the Team NA gimmick we got a while back. I don’t want this to replace the olympics

About this level...

A glorified All Star game effort

Nobody will risk their NHL season for a tournament that doesn’t matter for anyone’s legacy
I am shocked at the poll results so far. I don't know why people are expecting anything more than the All-Star game level... it would be nice, but I expect a lot of people are going to be disappointed if they are expecting playoff intensity especially. :amazed:

Because they are Professional players who have been robbed for 10 years of getting to play on best on best tournament that they have been dreaming growing up. Why wouldn’t they be more excited to play on this than against the bloody NY Islanders? 15/16=94% of players participating on Athletic’s anonyymiys poll were excited of playing on this.

I'll believe it when I see it. It might be a European mindset to believe that these kinds of in-season tournaments could ever generate that kind of excitement amongst NHL players, and I'm certainly in no position to judge what NHL players are thinking, but I'd bet most of them would far rather skip it and be on a beach somewhere. :dunno:

When all the nations aren't even there, it's hardly even a true best on best anyway. I wish my NHL team would just find somebody sick to cough on all our participating players so that they could skip this silly thing.

I'm hoping for playoff level intensity, getting those bragging rights like they did back when we had best on best olympics.
