Quick is recovering from major surgery. Sutter is just playing him too much this season.

I don't think we will ever see Quick at 0.946% in the playoffs again, but he should be a solid ~0.920% goalie. Which would be a top 15 goalie each season.

Bernier is having a great season, no reason not to play him more down the stretch. Split the games and give Quick some extra recovery time. Maybe play Bernier Saturday and Quick on Sunday and Tuesday. Then the better performing goalie plays Thursday.

This is the weakest argument because Bernier plays in front of the same defense and has had no issues making big saves consistently.

My only beef with saying that is, The young D looks a lot more confident with Johnny B in net.

Could be style, The young guys play like crap with Quick it net.

Quick has let in some softies no doubt. But that young D has given up prime breakaway's and scoring areas consistently in front of Quick.

Quick needs to come up with a save for those, he just hasn't this year.

IMO, the short season isn't doing him good. Quick has been a notoriously slow starter and he seems to get better the more games he players. Sharing duty with Bernier this season isn't doing him well and he's a type of goalie that needs to play 80-90% of the time but he's unable to do that this year with surgery and slow play

You don't trade a guy that you just commit yourself to with a big contract. Bernier will be gone this summer, and he deserve to get a shot at #1. I think Quick will bounce back in playoff and next season when he gets to play more games and be in a rhythm

The only possible way Quick is traded, is if some gm offers something absurd that you just can't turn down, like Hall

Only in LA would fans be debating trading a goalie with 142 regular season wins and 20 playoff wins with a Stanley Cup and Conn Smythe in 4 1/2 seasons.

what does the city of LA have anything to do with Bernier being an absolute stud? management could have gone with Bernier over Quick as the #1 back in 2008 and it still would have been a good decision because they are both outstanding goalies. what point are you trying to make?

I would never give Edmonton the piece to put them in position to be a contender now that they'll be in our division. Ever, ever. Whatever happens, we shouldn't be trading them jack any more. They would never get a goaltender from me.

I do find it interesting how many people here bash on the way Philly runs their team yet seem to be wanting DL to make that Philly type of move with Quick. Little bit odd.

In any case I would consider us very fortunate if it did turn out that we won a Cup with Bernier. Even with a goaltender playing like ours did last season, the odds on winning two in a row would be very long.

Quick locked up the number one position in goal last year and that was sealed with his long-term contract. Sutter will most certainly try as long as he can from now untill the end of the regular season to see if JQ gets his game back. If not, Bernier could be the man of the hour for the playoffs and our run for a back-t0-back but in no way does that mean that DL will keep Bernier and try to trade Bernier. The worst scenario is that Quick gets his game back next year but he made his point already.

Bernier is prooving more and more for all the doubters that he is of the caliber of a number one and DL will give him that opportunity by trading come the draft. If he signs elsewhere as an RFA we should get number one picks.

And consider I am, being from Quebec, a huge Bernier fan but first and foremost a LA Kings fan for more than 45 years.

I think he was implying people in LA don't "get" hockey. Hurr, like we want another Luongo situation...

I don't like seeing people turn on a guy just cause of a bad year. You treat your players like game pieces instead of human beings and you are going to get burned. Looking at numbers may help you win your fantasy league or win in a video game, but the real world doesn't work that way. Humans go through slumps, injuries, mental difficulties.

The numbers didn't predict Quick having an .946 s% in the playoffs last year and they didn't predict that he'd have under a .900 s% in the regular season this year. That's the human element and every single player goes through it.

Thankfully, the Kings have a management that doesn't overreact and trade guys after one bad season. They built an amazing core of players on all aspects of the ice and they only make the moves necessary to make the team better. It's really quite awesome seeing how a lot of managements function.

I trying to say that there are some who have been waiting for Quick to have a rough patch and now are ready to toss him and go with their guy. Quick has a proven track record. He's not Steve Mason for gosh sakes.
I don't believe in "what ifs". That game can be played in finitem. And the city of LA has nothing to do with it, just certain fans. Let Quick play with a new big, experienced, tough DMan in front of him for a few games and see if be can get back to "stellar" instead of average. Oh and maybe score a few goals for the guy.

I don't want Quick traded. But I do want Bernier starting in the playoffs if this continues. It doesn't make sense to keep hoping for Quick to become what he was last year. Let him recover over the summer and come back healthy. For this run we need whichever guy is playing better. Right now that is Bernier. We can't throw away a prime chance at a cup by being stubborn about which goalie we start.

Bernier deserves to play more. Just because Quick was good last year, doesn't mean that we owe him something. I love Quick but he is just not good enough so far this year.

Everyone says that JB is untested and we don't know what he can do, but one thing for sure right now is that he looks darn confident and he is the better goalie, right now. We should ride him and worry about what his status is after the playoffs are done.

Agree.

Pretty much. I wasn't around this forum during the #99 years. But I am sure some people wanted him gone too at certain points.

Either was I, but I'm sure they did. But look at the bag of crap we got in return. I might be wrong, but we didnt even get a single draft pick. He'll, a 1st rounder or 2nd shouldve been mandatory.

6 of Bernier's 10 starts have been at home, while the majority of Quick's starts have been on the road.

Quick played more in the beginning of the season when the team in front of him was playing poorly.

Quick has has faced better competition.

The bottom line IMO is that while Bernier's stats are nice, he's played in more optimal situations than Quick; he's had it easier. Personally, I still feel more comfortable when Quick is in goal.

I think its silly to brush off this scenerio. We have 11 games left in the season. Do you folks really see it as an impossibility that Bernier is in net come game 1? If Quick has a few more shaky games and Bernier continues to be the better goalie doesn't Sutter owe in to the team to play the guy that gives us the best chance to win?

For the record, I only own 1 jersey and it has 32 on it. I'm the biggest Quick fan in the world but I'm starting to become more convinced the Bernier may be the better choice for this year.

I'm a Quick fan, and a Kings fan first.
I was just wondering about this unrealistic possibility, read better my post. I'll always upport Quick, as he was the main reason we won our first Cup.

As much as I love quick, he was not the main reason why we won the cup. I truly believe our defense won the cup for us and I will always stand by this.

As for quick being on the chopping block. I highly
Doubt he will be traded or even be considered, at least not for another 3-5 years.

hes having an off year, it happens. it just sucks because his poor play is amplified when compared to the stellar performance he put in the playoffs last year. there will always be armchair GM's calling for dumb trades/moves throughout each season, it doesnt matter what city they are from. i can think back to last december/january/early february when people were saying Lombardi was going to get fired for underachieving and hiring Sutter of all people

Why is there anything wrong with discussing our goalies? Why is it being considered poor form to discuss who is having the better year or who might start in the playoffs or anything else about them? I am a diehard Kings fan (like many of you) and have been since the early 70's. I think it is the first time in my life that we have the luxury of having two great goalies and I think it is interesting to talk about how they are playing and what potential outcomes could be if one plays significantly better than the other.

Same goes with our forwards and D. We just won the cup and I am crap happy that we have such a great team that we can spend time chewing the fat about such mundane things as what we would do if we were King.

In the end Quick is going to be our starter and we are all going to stand right behind him. Win or lose we are and that is all that there is to it. The great thing is that our coach isn't going to let JQ ruin his confidence or his career by leaving him out there when he doesn't belong.

How great is it to have JB playing great and at the ready if anything heads south for JQ? Its as great as things get.

I like it, I like JB and JQ, I like em allot. Heck dang its a great time to be a Kings fan.

Wholeheartedly agree, sorry if I offended anyone. :)

I didn't like the Bishop to TB deal because I was hoping we could have dealt Bernier there for B Connolly. However a few other teams remain in the picture regarding possible deals at the draft and depending on the playoffs and how free agency unfolds a couple more teams may emerge.
