The Red Wings were the better team in 2008. Watch games 1 and 2, while Osgood had a shutout in both of them, I am not sure if there was a quality chance that either one of us couldn't have stopped. The Pens just looked starstruck and the Red Wings looked more determined, more experienced. Does a strong Cup final by Malkin change this? I don't know. Let's keep in mind, this was still a 6 game series. It wasn't a sweep. The Pens won two games. And while they lost the first two convincingly each of the last 4 games was decided by just a goal. A last second shot that went wide by Hossa in Game 6 and a triple overtime game in Game 5. That being said, the Pens got outshot in every game that series, all 6 of them. Malkin may not have had a point until Game 5, but they may have needed more than that from him. It is possible that a normal series for Malkin means they play a Game 7, but the Pens were just very green in 2008. They were a different team with a different feel in 2009.
