What if: If the Panthers lost the 2024 SCF, would it be worse than 28-3?

Assuming equal teams, it would be no worse than the Oilers' "choke job" that made them lose the series.

Both teams lost three in a row. Game seven was basically a coinflip.

It would've looked bad in a vacuum, however the series was close enough that one team shouldn't have been up 3-0 in the first place.

After the Oilers early season struggles and coaching change, they turned every 3-game losing streak into a winning streak. Game 7 was actually the first time they didn't win the 4th game in a row after losing 3.

What I'm trying to say is the Oilers had a ton of confidence in that particular scenario, and if their superstars went nuts in the final game I think you just tip your cap.
As a Panthers fan, there would’ve been no tipping of the cap lol. That would’ve been old Panthers bullshit. Where the old owner had an internal cap, made players purchase their game worns instead of giving them to the guys, pretty sure he had them paying for food iirc, demanded a casino be allowed on adjacent land that would have (funded the team), ignored the community…total opposite of what the current owners are that have brought so many back to the arena.

28-3 would be a pretty embarrassing loss. Nearly a goal every two minutes. Not sure losing one game by a historically hilarious scoreline would be worse than a reverse sweep in the cup final though.

Oh, "28-3" is a reference to some other sport. I see now. Reverse sweep in the SCF with game 7 at home is worse than whatever the other thing is.

As far as I'm concerned, if the Panthers lost game 7 at home, they'd probably be at the serious brink of relocation.

That game still haunts me, because it was one of the most evenly played game 7s I could remember. Could've went either way. 2 very evenly matched teams. Bouchard hit the post just before Reinhart made it 2-1. Drai couldn't move or shoot the entire series with his broken ribs and hand. Bobrovsky and Forsling with that incredibe stop on Mcdavid/Hyman late in the 3rd. I don't blame the Oilers for being inconsistent this season. They truly gave it their all last year, climbed the mountain only to lose 2-1 in game 7- and they did it in the most difficult way possible. 30th in the league in November before the coaching change. Down 3-0 in the finals. One of the reasons I don't think this is the Oilers year is that the finals run took so much out of them. Some of the players Oilers players (Kane, Ekholm and Mcdavid) are still dealing with lingering issues from that long run. Some great memories and it would've been great to see Mcdavid get his ring dragging his team from 3-0 down, but it's a near impossible task to beat a cup contender 4 times in a row.

It would've been the top 5 most epic sports stories of all time. McDavid winning it all like that in such a Disney-esque fashion would send the hockey media to a freaky frenzy.

Here's this crazy game that's a lot similar to the 2024 SCF outcome. Ironically, the loser team is named the Panthers. Pretty odd, eh?
