What happened to the once high-powered Stars offense?

They need more experience. Give Johnston, Stankoven and Bourque playoffs experience and they will dominate.

Pavelski was great in the regular season but he's been awful in the playoffs. Suter is spent but can teach the kids.

Bring up Kyrou and your long line of quality prospects while nudging Pavelski and Suter out. There is enough talent on the Stars AND in the system to build a mini dynasty.

Kyrou is not even close to NHL ready

Vancouver is trying to challenge Toronto for the team that every year derives its pride from the fact that it lost to better teams close. 2030 will come and go and they still won't have won the Stanley Cup but they'll be flooding chats talking about how lucky it is that some other team beat them, when that team has had much more success than them in the playoffs historically, and recently, and also has actually hoisted a cup in club history.

That is the difference. That's a 7 game series vs Vegas.
This argument makes no sense. Can you elaborate a bit?

I know your posts rarely exceed 140 characters but I'll help you with some talking points.

a. Talk about why it is specifically a 7 game series (when 201-193=8).
b. Talk about why it's Vegas.
c. Talk about how it makes a difference over a multi-year period of time despite only being a handful of games.

You're of course encouraged to bring up talking points of your own, but no cheating by digressing or trying to change the subject.

Deboer loves and prefers playing his vets. He doesn’t like injecting kids like Bourque into the lineup. He keeps putting Pavelski out on the #1PP unit and has done no adjustments to the PP. He will likely be fired if they lose on Sunday.
Deboer will 1000% not be fired. That is insane by itself, let alone looking at Jim Nill's track record.

Dallas has played 201. Edmonton had played 193 in the same time frame. Over a two year span, you’re telling me that’s the difference?

Buddy is just a Flames grasping at whatever nonsense excuse he can think of.

Anyways, series isn’t over yet. Oilers need to come out dialed in and focus on closing this one out.

Seeing Pavelski with one goal in 18 games is sad to see. How can a guy fall off this hard?
He has played 100 games, and 39 yrs old. Tank empty. Every game this year, he's played. Idiotic, when they could have played younger guys toward the last few weeks to spell him, and learn if those guys could play if/when needed in the playoffs. They were getting in the post-season regardless.

The playoff format didn't help them, either. It's no longer a 1 vs 8, 2 vs 7, etc bracket style.

How about we just give Darnell Nurse and Stu Skinner some credits instead? Dallas just hadn’t faced guys like those before.
Cold!

10 SOG through 2 periods at home in a crucial game 5?!?!?

It’s not like this Oilers team is known for elite defensive shut-down hockey or elite goaltending either…

And it’s been like this pretty much the entire series….Dallas just looking completely inept offensively. The same team that had like 10 players put up 50+ pts during the regular season, and they looked pretty scary at times against VGK and COL too.

Very strange. Bad time to start sucking offensively. Series isn’t over but still….I’m honestly SHOCKED at how poorly the Stars have played as this series has gone along. Thoughts? Solutions?

When mcdrai want the puck, they own the puck. It’s great that Edmonton’s depth has stepped it up 2 games in a row but it’s really the combination of the two playing really well. That Oilers team is beatable if it’s only one or the other is firing.

Looks like a team running on low fuel. Everyone is a bit banged up at this late stage. But Stars have their share of older guys who played alot. Pavekski, Benn, Duchesne, Suter, Seguin.
Can they go to the well one more time tonight. Hope so. Love me a games 7.

Pavelski is really old. Benn and Seguin are old as well and feel like yesterday's news. Duchene is Duchene meaning nothing special and never was. Robertson is really sneaky around the net but not overly dynamic or someone who drives play all over the ice. It feels the guy they missed (performance wise) this post-season was Hintz, who's someone who can be that speedy game-breaking presence over multiple zones, I don't know was he injured or something?

This oldness and slowness I guess is supposed to be offset somewhat by these new young guys Wyatt Johnston and Stankoven, but I don't know much about them to comment on it, I don't follow this team slavishly.

Something was off about Hintz all post-season long. Almost never shot the puck after the 1st round, then got injured with an upper body injury in that series off a play that didn't look like much. 2 total shots in his last 3 games. Looked like a player who really did not want to shoot the puck if he could avoid it

It's a shame, cause the issue last year was there was not enough secondary scoring and he and Pavelski were carrying the offense. This year, he and Pavelski were absent and other guys showed up. Just need everyone to show up at once ideally

Credit where credit is due Edmonton destroyed their perimeter offensive and defensive zone game with their speed, knob lock made adjustments and it worked extremely well. They stopped collapsing as much in the defensive zone and beat the Stars to the perimeter where these days everyone seems to shoot the puck around or dump in and try to get it with a four check. And a widened up in the offensive soon too which to helped Edmonton's quick four check and pump possession. In my humble opinion.

Edmonton playing very very good hockey, and a mix of the Stars having maybe one too many old guys in their top 9. Hintz dealing with an injury played a factor as well.

But I'm not going to spew out excuses because at the end of the day, Edmonton just was THAT good. I've been giving credit to the Oilers throughout the WCF and I'll continue doing so.

They got a special team and I'm hoping they can finish off Florida. Their organization and fans have gone through a lot of shit since 2006.

It's not like the Stars are done they still got alot of talent for next season. They probably will be scoring a lot next season as well. The playoffs is different story and witnessed higher point teams get eliminated. Oilers just were able to take advantage of their pk+ pp and Skinner played exceptional well in game 5+6.

Who knows. Maybe Central wasn't as good as people say. They are making for a boring WCF. This entire site was dissing both Van/Edm who ever won about having to go get dominated by the Stars. They don't look like the team HF chopped them up to be. HF is wrong once again. Who would have thunk .
It's weird to me to see people still bash teams success based on their division as it makes less sense now that the schedules are very closely balanced. It would have made more sense in olden days when you played your division rivals 6 times but now you only play many of them 3 times vs playing the rest of your conference 3 times and all the opposing conference teams twice. If you get a high point total it can't only be cuz of ylur division anymore.

Edmonton had the best record in the nhl since nov.24. They just had a bad start with their previous coach. They also had one of the better defenses in the nhl despite people's assumptions.

Also one problem might be that a lot of dallas's touted scoring depth is old guys near the end of their career who may be wearing out as season goes longer. Only a few of that core are actually in their prime.
