What happened to Penner's scoring touch?

i still don't agree with Lewis on the PP2 over Penner.

Penner offers up a set of better hands, and a bigger body to screen the goalie, with Stoll and Williams cycling around the perimeter, for me Penner makes more sense on the PP2 over Lewis... who lacks a bit of creativity offensively.

That can't be true, it is completely ridiculous and way out of Clowe's ballpark to get anything near that range, but as you stated, ya never know with free agency. It seems like a few GMs and owners lose some brain cells on July 1.

Clowe has zero grasp on the reality of his value if that is true.

Filppula would be interesting but I'm not sure if his 60 point season was a fluke or not. Plus we have a disturbing lack of Finns and Swedes on our team...

It's balanced out but our newfound abundance in Stanley Cup rings

Those demands from Clowe are outrageous. I don't think any team will give him an offer close to that. I could see a desperate club maybe giving him $4.5M for a couple years, tops. On a decent team with depth, I'd say $4M at most. My opinion, I wouldn't give him a penny over $3.5M. He has a lot of attributes that clubs will find attractive, however, he can be an irresponsible player on the ice and as we've seen this season and in past seasons, he can be wildly inconsistent and frustrating to endure with his lack of offensive production.

As for Filppula, I do believe that some team will overpay him, just as we saw with Hudler and Wideman who were both overpaid to sign with a bad team (the Flames). If the Caps fail to re-sign Ribeiro, I could see them pursuing Filppula.
