What happened to Laine’s goal-scoring?

And already 34.8% of Teemu Selänne's career hatties (23) before the age Teemu even played in the league.

Also, 4th consecutive season with Hatty for Patty.
Yeah it's only a matter of time when Laine will pass Selanne in career goals. Already has a 133 goal lead on Selanne at the same age.

Nice third goal. About time Laine showed up this season. It's just so funny to me that he scored three and his xGF% was once again, very poor (all three goals were on the power play). I'm guessing the Jets struggled at evens today?

Maybe it goes to something else than only on time. Need to be careful what to say these days. But about two Selänne's rookie season's worth of goals is good ahead start, true.

I thought the deflection one was actually a really nice-looking deflection.

I think that was pretty cool too. Kind of looked like he went for normal deflection downwards first and then actually decided to redirect it into the top corner.

At this point I wouldn’t be surprised if Ottawa gave up the most Hattricks this season. Congrats to Laine for figuring out how to score again.

Many bizarre comments in this thread. Elsewhere people talk about how Laine has become a much better, defensevily responsible player, but from reading comments in this thread it sounds like he would be a failure at this point. His shot is unbelievable when he is on. I am glad he put a few in the net the past few games.

15th in goals, 26th in points, plays a physical 2way game... What a bum.

You know, people can go and act delusional to both directions.

One delusion is/was/will be that Laine is washed up as a goal scorer. Flak will come back against everyone who go that far to their own hyperbolic delusions.

This is not the first thread of this kind ever, where Laine has managed to deliver instant karma...

And exactly how many fans were like that? Let's hear your honest opinion?

We are talking a 2 year span of time, it fluctuated, but of the Laine supporters who were conspiracy theory level of nutty it was probably around 10.

Well, there is a noticeable drop in quality in his shots this season. If his shot quality was at the level of his first couple of seasons, he would probably have 10 more goals this season, while still being the "new" complete game player. He misses a lot of shots he would have put on goal in the past.

20+ easy. Not all finns, few converted "jets fans". The finns are still here but w AM34 in the Rocket race and dominating the local hero they are slightly muted. A certain Dad is still around just posting under a name similar to empathy.

In the middle of all this I still wonder why someone poses as a Jets fan but disses Laine the time he gets the chance.

NHL needs more personalities and goal scorers like Laine. Lets not pretend Laine isn´t one of the most gifted guys the get the shot off. He also has other tools, which is shown this year.

I agree. That is what concerns me most, as it is something that is to some degree under Laine's control. Maybe after establishing the career he didn't felt anymore that high level needs to make those notorious shooting practices (of tens of thousands shots) which result was clearly visible during his rookie and sophomore seasons. Maybe back issues took something out of his shot too.

But I agree that his shot isn't as accurate as it used to be. If he can compensate that by adapting to different kinds of goal scoring situation, that's great.

I don't see any good reasons why he couldn't adapt, considering other aspects of his game has been improving consistently.

You mean goal scoring wise?

He's pacing for career high with improved defensive play.

He's not a top tier superstar but improved.

Laine definitely has potential to become best winger in NHL in couple of years and be in that place/ top one- 5 winger status for 5-10 years. Strong all around player good defensively strong in corners etc.. player who scores 50 goals and 100 points regularly per season thats what i see as prime Laine if all goes well.

And you know who Laine's favorite player is, right? He gets that from his favorite player.
